I'm sure you're right, but did they come on specific model? A mod told me they were after market and needed a special wiring harness with a different socket. I pulled them from an 82-84 with the stock harness so they were more than likely added from a later year

Are those the grid lights? If so, they are '85-'90 Trans Am and '85 SE models and use the same taillight wiring from '82-'90 (85-90 being Trans Ams)

Actually, if that's a gold bird in the center, it's very likely they are off of an '87-90 GTA.

I would be interested in the center section if you decide to get rid of these.

I called my local GM dealer and they looked up a part # I gave them and it came back as the center tail light emblem.

They will work on any 1985-1990 Trans Am and GTA.

If the bird looks metallic then they are off of a GTA. If it is just plain gold they are off a T/A.

85 TA pictured. No "PONTIAC" spelled out on the center section.

This is puzzling, they infact don't say pontiac on the center, and the bird is definately orange. I now know that they are 85-90 for sure, but any specific model these came from, why the orange bird, etc?

The Pontiac on the center would indicate that the center piece is from a 1985 or 1986 Firebird S/E.

Since these taillights do not have that and do not have the gold metallic bird they are from a 1985-1990 Trans Am. The center birds came in various different colors depending on the color of the car. I've seen white, silver, blue, red etc...

The Orange bird is because it was Red, but faded.

And as was already stated the lights themselves were originally for 85-86 Firebird S/E's, but with a different center section that had raised PONTIAC lettering in the reflector section. and 85-90 Trans Am and GTA's.

I swapped a set into my Formula though, cause these are best looking 3rdgenbird lights IMO

Thanks for the clarification everyone, I was just curious because cadillac stated in another post that they were after market lights and I wanted to make sure they were stock.

They're stock and finding a set in good shape like that is somewhat rare.

If you look in the bottom right corner at the DOT number the year is listed in that number. Keep in mind it's the year the lenses were manufactured. For example my 86 T/A had an 85 on it because that's what year the car was built. Same tail lights that are on my 86 T/A as well as the 85 Firebird SE I had.

actually no, thats the year of the mold

for example, all chevy truck tallight lenses say 73, all the way through 87, and some 1 tons through 91

the year on gm taillightlenses is not the year the lenses are or were put on,

82 83 84 lights are the best looking, already smoked from factory and all, love them

goodl uck

Yes, that's the exact same stamping on my light.

I liked them so much I had to have a set for my 83.
When I ordered my center section, back in the day, I should have got the one for the S/E, because the original 83 center piece did say "PONTIAC" in the reflective portion.
I believe the reason they didn't put it on the one that went into the T/As, was because that would have been redundant, as the rear bumper cover already has that molded in.

And no, the 82-84 bumper covers didn't have the name molded into the cover.

Leon.
