ok I was browsing ebay I have seen this brochure before but I have never caught this before look at the taillights on this car

notice anything diffrent? I thought all 1990+ got the grid style taillights. The white one has the old kind but it has the high mounted 3rd taillight in the harch. Does anyone know whats up with this?

 

The grid taillight was set on all cars for 91 and 92 only. The 1990 still had the taillights pictured. The brochure was printed early. Probably before production. The dealer brochures aren't the best resource for availability of options.

 

that make since but the white one has the 1991 GFX on it. was that a mock up car or something?

 

the liturature was probably printed before they decided not to use those lights. many things are slated to be available, only to have the plug pulled just before production begins.

a perfect example is a factory poncho powered firebird in 1982. a few months before production the plug was pulled, turns out the poncho motor would have been faster then the CFI305, so no dice. if only....

 

I own that same brochure, and indeed, it appears the pics of that white RS are pre-production pics. What's even more interesting is that the 7/90 Motor Trend tested a white '91 RS (not the same RS in my opinion, as the MT car had the 16s) that also had the non-grid tailights...

 

The 91 dealer catalog uses the red Camaro picture. In the standards section, it lists the RS standard features. Then, in the Z28 section it says...."in addition to or replacing RS features, every Camaro Z28 includes: Special exterior appearance with black-painted headlamp openings, hood power dome, rear wing (except convertable) and specific tail lamps." Also, changes may be made without notice. It was probably changed and one tail lamp style was used. And the 91 production started early in 90.
