maybe purchasing this car...
Hey, thinking of purchasing this car, but not for the stated price (who does), can you guys give me some advice. My concern is, the engine is original and has 128k on it. What is the longevity of these engines...that seems like a long time to me. If I purchased this car would I need a rebuild on it, and how much would that cost, or would it need a new engine...and how much would that cost. Ide really appreciate any input.
Thanks
Chris

Looks gorgeous to me. My car has 133,000 miles on her and havent had a rebuild and still running strong. There is some compression loss but thats to be expected. Another car i've owned lasted 50,000 and the engine went south. All depends on how its been maintained.. An engine can last 1000 to 1,000,000 miles depending on how you treat it. (Yes that million miles is an exaggeration.

Give it a test drive and you will be able to tell the shape of the engine. It should accelerate smoothly, and when stomped on it should rev without hesitation. Trans should shift firmly. It has age and it will not be perfect, but you will get the best idea from driving. Unless of course they let you do some major tests, like compression tests or things like that. But the butt tester worked for me. Bought it at 97,000 and going strong at 114,000.
Besides engine and trans, the suspension WILL need work if it has never been worked on in the lifetime of the car. At 97,000, my stock sway bar bushings were shot, leading to very loose and scary handling. I drove a 91 z28 with 128,000, and the springs seemed shot. Possibly locked struts. All things to lookout for in a z with 100,000+
Other than that, looks like a nice ride. Good luck.
