Adding options?

I just bought an 83 L69 Trans Am that I’ll be restoring next summer; the car has some weird options. It has power windows but no power door locks. Rear disk breaks but no posi (although, I think posi was on hold for the end of the 1983 model year) and a power antenna, and no cruise control.

When I restore it I’m going to add power door locks, power hatch release and power seats.

From what I have seen, adding options to a car doesn’t detract from its authenticity to much as long as it's disclosed. Not that I’m worried too much, it’s just something in the back of my mind. What do you think?

In reality I would not see why it would hurt either way, as long as it is done correctly and not spliced in. Most of the options that you describe can be simply plugged into the existing harness...

The early 3rd gens were a little different than the later 3rd gens. Before GM was offereing package discounts most options were seperated out, but as GM was learning that if you made one harness that had locks and windows it was cheaper than having several harness' one with locks, one with windows, another with power mirrors, another for the hatch release, another for the rear defroster. THats why many later 3rd gens got hte power mirrors, since it was part of a package.

I am not sure about 3rd gens but many cars had the wireing for the other options, there was nothing plugged into them. For example my 87 Formula has the wires for the Subwoofer control, I just do not have the Amp, nor the wires going to the speakers however.

I have some parts from an 83 Trans Am LG4, they are essentially the same car, let me know if you need something. PM me
