For some reason I never really paid attention to the taillights on the '91-92 TAs when they were new, and now I am curious as to whether anyone else did.

The PONTIAC writing on the taillights, was it a decal or actually painted on?
And was it an outline of the letters or were they filled in?

Does anyone have pics of what it really is supposed to look like, and if it was a decal does anyone know of a reproduction that is available.

Thanks.
Mark

It was a decal.

Do a search. I remember a good thread about the Pontiac lettering on the '91-'92 taillights from a ways back. 92GTA he knows the answer for sure. I believe he had a replacement decal made for his car.

There is someone on the boards that has reproduced the letters. I found them when I was looking for pics of these lights. A search should yield the results you desire.

Were they painted on from the factory?

Yes they would have had to be painted on, otherwise people would have remnants of the decal on their lights. Its just like the 93+ center piece the paint wears off those too. If you look closely you can see where the surface was rough for the paint to stick. The base firebird emblems do not wear off because its actually painted from the inside.

Technically its silk screened on.

I actually sanded and polished my tail lights to remove the rough surface to give it that stelth look... On a yellow car it looks killer.

Try this company also,http://www.autografics.com/pages/birds3.htm
scroll down 'till you find the lettering you're looking for.

These are a decal, unlike the factory printed version.

I have bought from them with very happy results.

I bought mine from a lady in Aus. and I believe those are theo ne's that GTAEmblems is selling. I bought 2 sets and ruined 1 screwing up installation of the I. The original decal is still on there after 5 years of use and looks like the day it was applied. My GTA has been a daily driver for the last 3 years and I wash the crap out of it and even using drive through car washes it still looks perfect. Before I applied it I removed the lenses from the car and soaked them in soapy water in the bath tub to clean them inside and out and then after that I wiped the area carefully with alcohol and a qtip of course only on the raised portion because alcohol can otherwise ruin a plastic surface. Maybe I'll need another one in 10 years at this rate but I will try and have it re-silkscreened as part of a restoration next time I do it.

I bought mine from Karen Brown in Australia. I got 4 decals for $50 Australian and they worked out pretty good.

Got mine from Karen also, very happy. I would suggest two sets if you're a bit clumsy like myself.
