15th Anniversary TA

In a local junkyard, theres an 84 Anniversary TA. It's not in very good shape. There's no front bumper cover, the fenders are rotted, and I dont think the hood is the right hood. The ttops were off so the interior got all wet, so the recaro seats aren't too nice. Maybe the frames are still salvageable though. Most of the parts are still there, it's an automatic, with the 305HO still in it. No wheels or tires. But everything from the back of the door and back it still good. The rear seats seem pretty good. The rear glass, panels, taillights, and the middle screaming chicken piece are in good condition. And we think the ttops are laying in a truck close by.

I was just wanting the rear from it, but maybe I could salvage some parts of it and it might be cheaper to buy the whole car from him. What would the taillights, middle piece, rear seats and panels, and seats be worth? I would keep the body in a nice dry spot incase somebody wanted to restore it later on, but with water being in there the floor pans are prolly rotted by now. So it would be a lot of work.

When I looked under the hood, it seemed to me that the steering box was a little beefier than mine. Did they have different steering boxes? About the rear, would it have a posi unit in it? What sized gears might it have? Are there any other good parts it would have on it that I could use?

It's a real shame for this car to be in the condition it's in, people don't take care of collectables such as this.

The 15th anniversary car is a rare, but surprisingly undesireable piece. There were 1000 automatics, and 500 5-speed cars made. I recently sold a mint 5-speed anniversary car. They dont bring in much money even when theyre in nice shape. The 3.73 gear came standard with the 5-speed, while the auto cars had a 3.42 standard gear ratio with the 3.73 optional. If it is equipped with the limited slip rear, look for RPO code G80, and GT4 for the 3.73's. The steering box is the normal, run-of-the-mill 12.7:1 box. They all came standard with the WS6 suspension package, and was the first F-body to be available with 16" wheels. The taillights, seats and interior panels are only worth as much as someone that is looking for them is willing to pay for them. The car itself is rather gaudy looking, but very unique at the same time. All 1500 of them were equipped with the W62 package as well. The Recaro seats bring a decent amount of money at times, but are normally trashed beyond being worth repairing. All 82-84 Trans Ams with the exception of the early 82 LG4 cars were equipped with the power bulge hood with the functional air induction unit. You could grab any of the 15th Anniversary specific parts if they are cheap enough, but honestly...dont be surprised if they are somewhat difficult to resell. It doesnt sound like theres too much left of that car, so if it were me, Id probably pass on the parts.

Well I was asking because I mainly need a posi unit, but if that 15th has one with the disc brakes that would be great. And if I get the disc brakes I would have to ****** the brake booster as well. Is there anything on the front suspension that would be better than what I have for my 84 Z28 already? Are the springs front and back any better? Any chance of the brakes being 2 piston?

The owner would probably want a whole lot of money for just the seperate parts, so I figured it would be much cheaper just to buy the whole thing and strip it down, sell the parts that a worth money now and keep the parts that arent worth anything because maybe they'll be worth some money later on.

I would like to get the RPO list off of it. Are they in the back in the drivers side compartment? Or in the console? If in the compartment, how could I get back there without the keys? There are two switches on the console with a 4 directional pad also. Would any of these open the rear hatch?

Your best bet would be to buy the whole car and keep what ever parts you want for yourself and sell the rest on EBay .(You'll be surprise what some people will pay for things on EBay) and you'll have some extra Christmas cash

P.S And don't forget your TGO brothers who might need some stuff

Disc brakes doesnt always mean a posi rear. Also in 1984 they used the Eaton Gov-loc unit which is a piece of garbage. The last one I had behind an L69, I broke the entire carrier into 5 peices. In order to swap to disc brakes, you would have to change the master, and the proportioning valve. Sanchez actually has a point...you could just buy the whole car and use what you want/need. Sell the rest. The 2 rocker switches on the console are for the power windows. The 4-way switch is for the power mirrors. The SPID will be on the inside of the console lid on an 84. Also, the calipers will be the single piston design.

When you say SPID, your talking about the RPO list? If so, I hope they threw the lid in the back or somewhere around the car.

Where could I find a non Gov-Loc posi? Are all 26 spline posi's Gov-locs? Are any 28 spline posi's Gov-loc's to watch out for? Anyway to tell?

Thanks for the help!

82s and 83s had the good posi, but the majority of them are the 2-series carrier. The gov-loc was only around for a couple of years. They were 26 spline in the thirdgen from 82 to sometime mid-88 or so when they changed over to 28 spline.
