Okay, I find this sort of stuff interesting! My TTA has 1,210 miles on the odometer, and the original owner sent an affidavit that the car had never been wet, to include never being washed. It has been washed once at least - I washed it when it arrived!
I was looking around tonight, and ran across something interesting. The front and back wheels have stickers on them, and I'm wondering how many stock wheels still have these. The picture below in the front, the rear is a slightly different number. Apologies for the cobwebs!
http://mohotcars.com/tta_frntsticker_sm.jpg
And the more interesting thing, at least to me. I was pecking around under the car, and found an interesting piece of paper under the front bumper, in the area where the intercooling ducting begins. I snapped a pic of the paper folded, and then another unfolded (but still attached). I had to wonder how many TTA's still have this assembly document down there. A couple of drives in the rain would have killed it one would think ...

Cool, I bet theirs not a whole lot of cars around like this!

Very nice find and as you stated only a car that has seen no weather would they still be there. My '83 still has remnants of the spring tags on her although they aren't really legible.
Just curious, and this may seem silly, but are all the valve caps grey?

Yeah, I think they're all grey. My spring tags look brand new on the TTA - I was going to snap a picture, but that seemed a little overboard even for me :-)

I know of three Turbo Trans Ams with under 100 miles on them and I believe all three have similar documents and stickers. Most, if not all the cars probably had them originally but get destroyed from being driven.
Wow, that is unbelievable. esp since my car has about, oh 183,000 miles, I'd really love to see it restored back to an undamaged state (lots of little things that really bug me and one or two 'bigger' things). Ah well, engine first then body.

about the gray valve caps...there was an article in a pontiac magazine I was reading about some cars having the gray valve caps vs. black, and if judges deduct points for having incorrect valve caps. Anyway, they said they used gray for balancing the wheels because the machine that balances them uses the gray valve cap as a reference point that the optics pick up on the machine. Sometimes a round sticker is used also from what I read. As far as points being deducted, I don't think they did, however since you have the gray ones I'd keep them

That is a weird place for a Build Sheet! Usually it's in the interior somewhere.
The gray lugcaps were the factory ones, actually Ford still uses them on some cars, so it must be something to do with balancing. Great pictures of the TTA, nice to see pictures of places that people rarely take pictures of. Even nicer when those rarely seen parts are just as nice and clean as the paint and other common seen surfaces.

On the contrary, I would suggest taking the pictures AND publicly displaying them and letting us know they're out there. The minor details of an untouched car are the ones that are least documented. If you've got the time and the interest to do it, by all means do it and help that guy that might be out there trying to perform a concourse quality restoration.Originally Posted by Midwest Muscle

That is an interesting note on the gray valve caps 1982TA.It makes you wonder about the balancing of wheels with the black caps.if the gray was required for the optics for balancing then replacing with black that would be a lot of extra tedious work.
And Drew that is a good point on the detail pictures of an unrestored unmolested car.So few are left it's so nice when you see one.Even if it's just in pictures.

Drew, I'll see what I can do - The cars are stored at a climate controlled facility a few miles from home ... But I manage to get over there fairly often.Originally Posted by Drew

1) Cool I love to find stuff like this.
2) The Gray caps have recently been replaced by Green in some situations on the newer cars.

Hey Mike - I'll look and see if I can find a build sheet under the front bumper area of my TTA. I did find a build sheet under the carpet in the hatch area (which is nice, cuz it is in mint condition!).
Anyone know how many build sheets they put in each car?
My TTA has been washed a few times, and the decals on the rims are long gone.
My original rims also have the gray caps. I have since removed the original rims/tires and stored them away (those original Gatorbacks are way to hard and offer no grip at all), and have a duplicate set of gold GTA rims on the TTA (with fresh. modern rubber). These have the chrome valve stems - which look better against the chrome on the rims.

I wish I had the original tires on this TTA. An owner that took off the original plug wires, and put them in a box. Made sure to not get the car wet, to include washing it - Never let it get dirty in 17 years. Kept the original oil filter and air filter. But somehow couldn't manage to move a car now and then to keep them from flat-spotting? And then didn't just remove them, but got rid of them to boot ... DUH!

Steve86 that's an interesting piece on information.Nitrogen does give much more stable air pressure due to the larger molecules. But would they have come this way from the factory?
Edit: Didn't Coker Tire start carrying the newer reproduction tires like the Gatorback?

My 89 Formula had the build sheet in the same spot behind the front bumper.

hah i only wish i could find a car as untouched as that one, but living up in ny there's way too much salt and it's pretty difficult to find a car without even rust on it not to mention being able to afford one!
maybe i'll go to some of the southern states and find a nice clean car for a few hundred $

Tony, that's good to know - I couldn't imagine just one car having it there!
My TTA lived its live in MA, but rarely came out of the climate controlled garage. It probably got lonely, but at least it's never seen salt ...

I want a TTA, I can't believe you still have the stickers on the tires...dang
Im sorry, but if I had one I would have to drive it not in the rain or snow, but it would get driven as much as I could, but then again I dont own one so I cant say for positive that I wouldn't keep it couped up in the garage

You have to remember that I'm 40 years old, and finally have some extra funds to have the 'toys' I couldn't dream of when I was half this age (Back when these cars came out). I've had driver versions of most everything I now collect, and had tons of fun in them ... So that lessens the temptation to put miles on these.
Sure the itch is there, and if I had the room I'd get a driver quality TTA just to enjoy it on the streets instead of treating it like artwork. I enjoy preserving these cars almost as much as I enjoy driving them. If I want fast though, there's plenty of cars out there that cost much less than an original low-mileage TTA. I'm looking at a blown 632cid '79 Z28 in Tulsa next week that clicks off consistent low 9's ... So we'll see what happens there.

Great pictures of the wheel stickers. I have a set of NOS wheels in the box that have the stickers on them. Both my cars at 4K miles and 5K miles are missing those. I do have the original air, grey caps, wheel weights and tires for my Festival car that are in storage.Originally Posted by Midwest Muscle

The TTA build sheet you found is in a very interesting spot. I have found them in both my cars in the rear wheel well under the carpet.
Do you still have the sticker on the valve cover? If so can you take a shot and post it? I have replacement stickers, but I need to see a picture for placement.
Thanks,
Dave
Dave, there are some stickers under the hood, but I can't recall if any are on the valve covers. I'll try to swing by the storage facility today and snap a picture ...
