Am I looking an a real Iroc here?
Hey guys i need you opinion on somthing. I went to go look at another 85 Iroc today. It has the 305 tpi with auto trans. I'm still debating on if it's a real Iroc or not. Whats really throwing me off it that i looked under the front end and it didnt have that wonder bar going across the front frame rails, but who's to say someone didnt take it off (highly unlikley but possible) but on the ground effects below the doors it has the Iroc-z plastic emblems. Also it was a drum brake rear, did all Iroc's come with disc brakes or was it just an option? Can you guys tell me anything to look for that will tell me weather or not it is a real Iroc or not? Thanks alot

A true IROC will have the RPO B4Z. The wonderbar I believe came later in the production models. The 85 and 86 had the triangular shaped braces between the frame rail and the K-member. I am not sure but the VIN might give you some clues. Check the console for the RPO codes.
Yeai look in the consol but it wasnt there, The 85 that I own now i fould the build sheet for under my carpet and that told me everything about that car, to bad it's now totalled because a idiot kid driver wasnt paying attention and decided to rear end me. But what about the whole rear disc brake situation?? Oh and another thing, On the Iroc I previously owned, on the ground effects below the door it had z-28 emblems and that car had the RPO sticker under the consol and had the B4Z. and this one i'm looking at now has Iroc emblems, is that somthing else they changed during production? Thanks

My 88 IROC has drum brakes, they are aluminum though(J42).
The 88-90 IROC's had IROC-Z emblems on the rockers and the 85-87 had Z28 emblems. The 88-90 also had RPO Z28 and the 85-87 had B4Z.
The TPI 305 was also available in the Z28 models 85-87, so it could be a Z with IROC badges.

Hey Eddie...I have an 85 Iroc. (305 TPI, auto.) My RPO is B4Z. I have the drum brakes, and NO wonder bar under the front end. As far as the emblems, I have the Z-28 emblems on my car. The VIN identifies it as an original Iroc. I am the second owner of this fine machine with only 30,000 miles! Good luck finding yours. The only regret I have with this car, is the Check Engine light coming on, and a constant EGR code is ALWAYS the culprit! (32) Replaced what we thought would turn that code off, but to no avail....just going to live with the light on! Other than a few minor things going bad with age (sensors, etc.) I LOVE MY 85!

My '87 has the following RPO codes: B4Z, Z28, and 1SC(All pertain to it being a Z28 and a Iroc-z).
Not sure how accurate all this info is, but its cool to break down the vin and look at what the RPO codes mean: www.iroc-z.com
Disc brakes in the rear was an option, but the car your looking at definatly has the wrong emblems on the ground effects. Were is the Iroc-z decal on the doors located? The back or rear? -Nick.

Decals and black headlight buckets are correct. Someone just replaced the Z28 emblems with newer IROC-Z ones probably out of preference. It should have the 85-87 style 16 inch rims? Dash emblem? Just check the RPO codes for B4Z and then you know its an Iroc for sure.
I wish my buckets were still black, who ever repainted the car sometime ago didn't keep the buckets black. -Nick.

Yea it has the 16in Iroc rims and the dash emblem, the only thing that threw me off was the fact that there was no wonder bar, i thought all Iroc's came with that. Is there another way I can find the RPO codes cuz the sticker under the consol door is gone. In my Previous Camaro I found the buildsheet under the carpet by the drivers seat, hopefully i'll get lucky this time to.

I have an 85 IROC. By the way, I've never heard of an IROC that didn't have a Wonderbar, but this is GM.... Check the door placard. It should indicate 16-inch wheels.

I'm not familiar with an IROC-Z not having the wonderbar. I can't show proof that 100% of IROC-Zs came with them, but that was part of the suspension and cornering capabilities that made the IROC-Z a step up over the base Z28.
The VIN will not give any clues in 1985. Options and the RPO B4Z are the only way to truly tell. As was mentioned, if the door sticker has the 16" wheel option listed, then it's an IROC-Z. No other Camaro had 16" available.
The issue with the EGR is not the EGR itself. It more than likely is the sensor that plugs into the EGR. I replaced my EGR and found that I still had code 32. I needed to replace the sensor and all is good.
It sounds like someone just replaced the emblems with IROC-Z emblems.
One last thing to note, iroc-z.com is mostly a waste of time for information. That website has very inaccurate info and the site owner isn't willing to update or fix the inaccuracies. You're better off getting data from iroczone.com and camarosource.ca.

One quick question, were the Iroc's available in white for 1985? When i was looking around in the car i lifted up the carpet and the floors are white so I know it's the original color. When I go to look at the car again i'll be sure to check the door sticker for the 16" wheel option Thanks
I have the same problem with my 86. It has the 15 z28 rims and doesn't have B4Z in the rpo list. It has Iroc Z on the doors Z28 on the dash and rear bumper. A 2.73 non posi rear. I have no idea if it is an Iroc at all. I'm in the process of buying one with T Tops, a better rear and disc brakes all the way around. The only rust I could find is on the floor pans. The same with the one I have now.

phone up your dealership and ask them to look up the RPO codes based on your VIN. i had them print off 8 pages of paper with all the RPO codes and what they mean. its great for when i wanna look up useful info like colour codes or accessories that have been uninstalled.
