Stripe color conundrum

An inauspicious first post, I know, but I had to start somewhere.

I have a 1988 IROC 5.7, black exterior and grey leather interior. The original stripes were apparently removed during the prep for a repaint performed years before I purchased the car. I am searching for the correct stripe colors for this car. A recent RPO search on one of the generic GM decoder sites (I don't remember which one) turned up the following:

81A STRIPE COLOR, ACCENT, TWO TONE, RED/BLACK (91)

Am I correct in assuming that my IROC had factory red and black stripes? Or does the (91) description suffix mean the color combo varies by year and the correct combo is unknowable?

You might want to check at this off site link, you will need to scroll down a bit to get to the IROC colors....

What color are the rims and interior? Gold rims and tan interior would give you the gold stripes. The IROC-Z emblem on the rear bumper can also tell you. If it's red, then you had the black/red stripes, gold emblem=gold stripes, silver=silver/black. I'm not sure what designated the blac/blue stripe.

Most RPO decoders decode the rpo for a 91 vehicle. GM reused codes over the years and what was the color for 91 will not always match the other years.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Hey 82' The off-site website is cool, I've been lurking and following links for a while and I had not encountered it.

Scott, my bumper emblems: silver tuned port injection 5.7 and silver IROC/red bow tie emblem. The wheels are 16" grey.

Thanks again

The decals on the car should be either black/silver or black/blue

Anytime you see a RPO description with (91) at the end, that means it's a definition for 1991. Back when the internet was in it's infancy and all the available information came from one or two sources, someone made a RPO decoder and they used the definitions from the 1991 Helms manual. For that reason you'll see plageurized definitions all over the internet with (91).
