How did you make them up?
They are not a decal, but more like an emblem, thick in the middle and thin in the edges.
I have never seen any repros made.
I did see some on ebay, but they went for big $$$, like around 400 bucks for two.

Just wondering,

George

They were made up by a company i work for in the uk . as far as i know i have the only repro's that are close the o.e . I have a set on eb*y at the moment . check my feedback , i have sold a few sets and everyone rates them !!
$400 !!!!!!!!! crikey i sell mine for £18 gbp deliverd...which is what? $40 ? I'm pretty sure someone from the states bought mine and sold them on as o.e. once , which was a bit bad of them.

I'm not a business , i'm just trying to sell some to recoup the money i had to spend to get them made (almost there!)

here is some pics . The top one is o.e , The bottoms are the new pair

my recaro is undergoing resto at the moment , but here you go!

Cheers!

Matt

That's pretty close, can't beat the price.

The font is thinner in your version and the leg on the "R" kicks out at a different angle, that's all I can see.

Are the FUEL INJECTION inserts still avaialble? You may be able to mold those for extra income.

Good luck on the resto.

I was asked a while back to get them done. if there was enough interest to make it viable it might be worth it.

the resto is going slow at the moment . other things always seem to get in the way! I have an 87 dailey driver with one of the lifters seized , so that's in bits at the moment.......no rest for the wicked

i was trying to find a pair of front gta wheels to go on the back of the 87 . snag is , on this side of the pond it's difficult to buy a set of gta wheels unless the rest of the trans am is attatched to them! ah well.

The "Fuel Injection" emblems might well be of interest to other enthusiasts groups, they used them on Fiero's and whatnot too.

Interestinly about 15 years ago I went into a regular parts store and they had them, they were cheep too, since just about all GM door handles from the mid 70's to the late 80's or early 90's used the same design. I wish I would have bought like 20 sets, but I cant find them any more...

oh well its the way the cookie crumbles...

I never saw Recaro TA or Fuel Injection aftermarket emblems at the car part stores.
Just Limited Edition and Pontiac and Chev ones.

thas't the funny things with older cars , the smallest things that you need to finish it are always the biggest pain to find. I spent 6 months trying to find some front fender mouldings for a 76 torino . nightmare

Re: Recaro T/A doorhandle inserts.

What about the "Arrowhead" logos in the Turbocast aluminum hubcaps? I've asked about these already but I would be interested in a gold set for the Recaro's. I had a guy try to make some up for me, but they are just decals, not like the actual OE piece. They look ok, but the real thing would be nice. Probably not enought interest for them though

I need some new Fuel Injection emblems. Make a run of them, cuban pete, and you'll have quite a few buyers on the board.

I have been trying to find a set of "Fuel Inejection" ones myself...I don't think he will do it though. I think people asked him before and he seemed reluctant, same with getting some bowling ball hubcap emblems made up.

Re: Recaro T/A doorhandle inserts.

What I have done is scour the junk yards for the Fuel Injection emblems, From 82-87 they were on one model or another... Basically in those years if you had any type of FI on a FIREBIRD you got the door handle inserts. Since all 3rd gens starting in 1988 had FI they were discontinued that year.

When you find an insert, you can peal it off, be careful not to over flex it as it can seperate. There is a metal strip that the printing is on and then it is molded into plastic, if the layers seperate your pretty much done with that decal... if you inspect the emblem prior you can sometimes see where the emblem is seperating in the corners, its possible to reseal them, but its never as good as new.

Once I hada few emblems that I was willing to work with, I was able to sand and polish them. Since I had several of them to mess with I took some that had seperated and worked with that one to get the process down, I recommend you do the same. I took ALL of the emblems I had and worked with them and took the best two and used those on my car. I used a fine 1000 wet/dry grit sandpaper and a Buffing wheel to polish them. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO OVERHEAT THE EMBLEM AS YOU CAN MELT THE SURFACE YOUR POLISHING. & try not to burn your fingers.

To re apply the emblem I first cleaned the back of the emblem with alcohol, & lighterfluid. The Zippo Lighter fluid is NAPTHA, it reasonably cleans the old stickey residue from the emblem, the alcohol cleans the door handle for adhesion. If you have a diabetic reletive get some of the alcohol swab pads, they are really handy for this. They are kind of like handy wipes from restaraunts, but smaller. Note: Handy wipes have some other chemicals than alcohol so I would not recommend using those.

SO in a nutshell:
1) Find used junkyard decals
2) Clean them up with soap & water
3) clean the back of them with NAPTHA (Zippo lighter fluid)
4) Sand & polish them as necessary
5) clean the back again with zippo, or alcohol
6) apply QUALITY carpet tape or similar (must be thin & stickey)
7) clean handle with alcohol
8) apply emblem.

Good luck & be patient, it took me a good 4 or 5 hours of messing around before I got a set that was "perfect" or as good as it gets/

John

sorry if my spelling is off, its early and my alergies are driving me nuts.

I have a set of factory "fuel injection" ones on my '92. I had no idea they were so "wanted". I guess I will start to look for them in the junk yards.

Considering the hundreds of thousands of V6 cars they were on in the mid 80s, it's hard to believe that they're *that* rare now.

Re: Recaro T/A doorhandle inserts.

How do .

If at least ten people say they would buy a set , i would get them done .

If someone is willing to send me a one decal , just to get the colour and typeface spot on and if there is enough interest , i will get a short run done . The cost will be somewhere near the price of the recaro decals at around £18 gbp per pair , to your door .

The person who sends me the sample will get a set for f.o.c and the sample back :-)

I had the recaro decals made for my 83 and it seemed the only way i could get hold of a set , so i didint mind going the loser money wise in getting them made . I just dont want to catch a cold on getting these made ;-)

cheers

Matt

Were these a Firebird only item or did Camaro use them too? There wasn't any trace of an insert in the door handles on my '83 CFI Z28.

And cuban pete your T/A is a beauty.Good luck with your restoration.

Pete as a vendor of third gen parts,I would say there is a market for these door handle inserts since the Camaro and Firebird had those door inserts,I would strongly encourage you to make more.

Good luck
