ok just got some more information i just bought a factory photo of the Z28-E and i got a paper with it that was typed. heres the info from it the paper says the Z28-E was for sale in several overseas markets as a luxury, sports turing car. they all where painted the same, silver metallic with charcoal rocker and front air dam accents. and all where powered by a 5.0-liter, four-barrel V8 engine. it goes on to say it was not offered on north america and it containes several features unlike its domestic counterpart, including clear plastic headlamp covers, special taillamps and license plate pockets. i will post more info when i get it

ok heres a little more info. i got this from the book "camaro the third generation" (the pictures there edited to fit on one post)

picture capiton:
Hedlight covers, special graphics, revised tail lamps atand out amoung the European Camaro's suggested dising attributes. For years, Camaro outsold all other American cars in Germany, so GM decided to create a specific modle the GT-Z --for European market. GT-Z's hood includes raised central portion.

the Z28-E aslo got appears to have the windshield mounted antenna, notice no antenna in the mag pix on the passenger fender. (although it might be power)

Here´s an old pic of my 1982 Z28E.
The car was imported new to the Netherlands (i was the second owner from 1988 to 1992).
As all other Z28E´s it original was light grey metallic with dark grey / black ground effects.
The car came with the ugly big mirrors (these came on the car because all cars had to have mirrors that can fold in in case of hitting a biker or something) wich i replaced later.
There was a lg4 and a th200 tranny in it and no emissions stuff.
Also it had 4 wheel disc brakes (no posi), rear compartiment cover, power windows but no headlight covers!
All Z28e´s ive seen had the same light grey velours upholstery.
Back in that days almost every one changed the Z28E specific parts to normal us parts (mirrors, taillights)...
This car didn´t survive because of the wet climate overhere, it had rust on it almost everywhere.

I finally have found some production numbers for the Z28-E. I found them in the book titled "standard catalog of Camaro 1967-2002"

Year production #'s
1982 1300
1983 550
1984 487
1985 204

So that means in the four years that the Z28-E was produced there where only 2541 made. Thoes numbers where not included in the USA production numbers.

Great pic ajmclean! Looks like an '85 by the taillamps an rocker panels. Although the striping looks much narrower than the U.S. cars. Love those white/gold '85-'86 Z28's.

i wounder if GM put them on or the owners did. i looked at both pics and the one in my link has rectangle reflectors and in the pic that ajmclean posted there square. there both from 1985 maby its only on 85 models or do you think its just an potion for that color package?

I doubt it has to do with the color of the car, I would suspect that different countries have different regulations as to the reflectors, only someone who lives there would know. BUt I suspect that there manditory as per Governmental saftey regulations, and the owner has to put them on in some cases to be "legal" therefore there may be several different styles.

...regular all cars in europe must have an "E"-sign on reflector(parts) (...and on lamps, bulbs, windshields, windows etc....almost every part of an automobile...)

...today everything is regulated by some law in and from European Union...there are special departments for transportation, cars etc......
...the parts have the "E1", "E2", "E3" and so on-sign.....it is similar to your DOT and SAE....

(note: sealed beam-lamps were not permitted...at any time!)

...and red tail turn signals, red sidemarkers are not "legal", too....but sometimes there are special arrangements/special permits to use them...(luckily...so I didn't have to convert the tails of my old 79 TA...an I could use it as it was...in the past it was easier...)

...so if you import a car overhere (and is doesn't have a "E"-number on the reflector-part of a tailamp), you have to put on two of the little red reflectors...it doesn´t matter, if they are quadrate/square or rectangular.....but they must have a "E" sign..

...german TÜV is sometimes ...

...the little reflectors on the camaro were put on by dealer, importer and so on...or owner....not by GM...
(with introdution of the 4th Gen Firebird it changed....this car gets a very "ugly" tail for the in the US assembled official export modells....(bumper with integrated "E"-sign reflectors, place for a long euro license plate...and taillamps with amber turn light and required integrated tail fog light....)

(btw., sorry for my english, it's not my first/native language...reading is easier than writing...)

Re: Rescearching the Z28-E History and Facts

Some of the things are like the front turn signal side marker lights stick out further so that other drivers are more liklely to see you when changing lanes.

Some cases the collapsable mirrors (used on the early 87 GTA) were used.

Some years the radio antenna was located in the Windshield, whereas the only car to my knowledge was the Berlinetta with the US option.

Some Exported cars did not have the computer control engine management systems, other cases they would get a hotter cam or other minor engine modifications that were NA on US cars.

Little things like that appear to be the most obvious differences.

It is a "Special Edition" only insofar as it was only offered as an exported car. What is special about it is as mentioned above.

There were Berlinettas with windshield antennas? I have an old Super Chevy from '82 where one of the editors ordered an '82 Z28 with the windshield antenna option and the car was delivered with the regular fender mounted unit. They were told the option was cancelled and none were built.

Well, that could have been only the 82 model year, it may have been available on other years. Or it could have been available only on the exported cars.

Re: Rescearching the Z28-E History and Facts

I know for a fact I can get a windshield mounted antenna for my car. I contacted a local Glass place and asked about getting one, they were about the same price as a regular windshield...

Chances are they are NOS, as I doubt there is a huge demand for them... personaly I have never seen one, but I know they exist. As for the availability in the US, I am not sure, I have seen some lit somewhere where it listed it for the Berl and nothing else...
