I just recently purchased a 87 Firebird Formula 350 and I used the VIN decoder off fbodydomain.com and it reads as a Firebird (s). The VIN is 1G2FS2183HL220106 I could not find the rpo sticker to verify codes and am trying to find out if its a real Formula 350 any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

The Formula is simply a Firebird, as far as the VIN is concerned.

The eighth digit of your VIN is 8, stating it has a 350. And the only way to get a 350 in a Firebird is if the bird is a Formula.

So there ya go. It's real.

 

Right I know it has the 350 but according to the vin decoder the fifth letter should be a "w" denoting a formula or trans am but it reads "s". The car has the ws6 suspension, front and rear disc brakes and formula 350 badging but the vin decoder is whats bothering me. Am I mistaken??

 

It's the VIN decoder that's mistaken. VIN decoders vary from site-to-site with many missing on this completely. Some 'think' a Formula is a Trans Am, but it's not. It's a base Firebird, so its VIN will be FS, not FW. FW is for the Trans Am and GTA.
