Question about heritage stripes
Ok, this question goes out specifically to owners of 1992 z28's with factory heritage stripes.
I'm restoring my 1992 RS Heritage (Purple Haze / Silver stripe), but sort of doing a Z28 clone... I'm using a Z28 style hood with blisters and hi rise spoiler, but otherwise de-badging the car before I paint it. The Heritage stripes on my car are vinyl stickers, easy enough on a flat hood, but I'm confused about the blister hoods. Are those painted the color of the stripes, or are they stickers too?
If they're painted, I'll just paint the stripes on, otherwise I'll go with stickers again to maintain originality.
Thanks!
Dave

Re: Question about heritage stripes
I'm almost positive the blisters are painted the color of the stripes...
hopefully someone else can help confirm this though.

Re: Question about heritage stripes
I think I'll just paint them on anyway to be sure everything matches.

Re: Question about heritage stripes
I never paid close attention, so I checked mine out. Either the factory did a great job of wrapping them or they are painted. I belive they are painted. Hood stripes and decklid are vinyl stripes. They do match the stripes perfect though.

Re: Question about heritage stripes
I dont own a z car but a little advice if you havent noticed this. When you put your vinyl on the car do it before you clear the car. Reason beign the elements will break the vinyl down in a few years and youll have a shiny car and peeling cracking stripes. I have seen this done and helped do it when i use to work in a body shop. All you should have to do is sand the stripes lightly with a 600 grit scotch brite pad (they are red in color) this will help the clear bond to them.

I think the blisters may have been molded in color rather than painted. The front and rear fascia were molded in color in Mexico and then shipped to Van Nuys for assembly. That is the reason that some of the fascia colors were off from the paint color. I am very confident that they were not decals on the blisters.
