Opinions on my possible first third gen?
Hey ya'll, I'd like your opinion on a third gen camaro i'm looking at. Here are the specs on it. Let me know what you think as to whether or not it's a good investment/toy. I really appreciate your help.
- Miles
1989 Camaro. T-TOPS! Car is in amazing condition, and has only 9,600 miles on it. Used to be a show car, then was only driven on the drag strip and around locally.
The car has a 350 motor, bored .30 over. Votec heads, a roller cam, forged pistons, holley supercharger, new headers, 3.23 POSI, all new brakes (with red calipers). It has the IROC-Z front end, IROC wheels (GT-4 Rubber), Mallory Fuel Cooler, MSD Ignition, Gabriel Air Shocks, New Trans, New Centerforce Clutch, Flowmaster Exhaust

Investment wise, no. I have had 2of these cars have they have no market. So, the only reason to buy is if you are a fan of these cars. Sounds really nice though. Andrew

The ASKING price is $6500.00, plus it will need a new gas tank. I've asked if he's flexible on the price but no response. What would ya'll pay for this type of third gen with the modifications? It appears to me like it's more of a strip car than a collectible, but ir's not tubbed.

New gas tank? Bored over block?
It's got 9600 miles on the rebuilt engine. The body sounds like it could be a completely different story.

Just a little advice when negotiating for a price. No seller in his right mind would ever say the price is flexible. What could he say, "I'm asking $5000 but what I really mean is $4000"? That's a little like shooting yourself in the foot.
Try making a specific counter offer. Put the ball back in his court. He might . . .
- still not say anything
- accept the offer
- or make you a counter/counter offer and put the ball back in your court.
- or he might sell to someone else (you never know, that's the risk when trying to haggle a lower price)
Good luck on your quest.

Re: Opinions on my possible first third gen?
If it is a True 9600 mile car then yeah its worth that, unfortunately the engine has been modified and for a low miles car that hurts its value.
I would ask if he has the original parts.
ALSO if it has a 5 Speed (as you mention a Clutch) then it would not have been a 350 from the factory. So either it was a 305/M5 or 350/A4 car.
Are you sure its not 96,000 miles?
