Question of Options

Hey guys this is probably a very simple question, but im new to the 3rd gen camaros and im looking to get into them coming from imports. I had an 87 Monte Carlo as my first car, and i know some of this and that about american muscle. Im looking for a 3rd gen camaro and my neighbor down the street has a 91 RS with a V6 for 1k, but also in town i found an Iroc with a 350 for 2K. They are both in similar condition as far as body and paint needs. I was wondering if the IROC has more to offer besides the bigger motor. Would buying the V6 RS for 1K less and using that 1K towards a 350 crate motor to put in there give me as much as the IROC or are the IROC's equipped with more (as far as a better rear end, stronger chassis, more strut support, suspension) or would they be the same base for starting out

Sorry for the longevity in my question but any help is much appreciated

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Question of Options

You'll spend ALOT more than that $1000 making the changeover. The 6-cyl trans, for example, won't bolt to a V8. All the exhaust is different. Etc.

Buy the better car. It's ALWAYS the cheeeepest way to get .... the better car..... rather than buying a lesser car and throwing parts at it.

Re: Question of Options

that makes sense, but if i put a v8 tranny in there with the 350 would it be all bolt up? or would it take more then that for changeover?

Re: Question of Options

The change over would take a lot more then that. Then there is the issue of federal law prohibits swapping a V8 into a V6 without a permit but people don’t talk about that so shhh... but there is a lot of other little thing that make it much better to get the V8 to begin with, ECM, exhaust, etc...

Re: Question of Options

buy the better car... along with a new exaust, new engine and new tranny, youd also need a new radiater, V8 engine mounts, the cross member is pre drilled for the V8 mounts but you would be so much further ahead if you just bought the iroc-z also the rs has weak V6 springs that youd have to change or the car would handle like crap...if they are in the same shape... i my self would spend the extra thousand bux and just get the iroc.. and youl have twice the car...

Re: Question of Options

the 350 Hands down... make sure it is a 350, check the VIN, should have an 8 for the 8th digit. 1G1FP218
