Hi all. I've owned my car now for about 5 years and i've always wondered if it was an actual WS6 equipped car or not. Some info is that its a 1986 trans am, all optioned out, power everything, 305 TPI (well, used to be anyways), and it had the black mesh GTA style wheels and the 36mm front swaybar. Anything else i need to look for, or should I assume it is a WS6?

 

Do you still have the RPO sticker in the center console? Look for WS6. That's the easiest, quickest and end-all answer to your question.

While you could also check the suspension for WS6 parts, with a ~20 year old car, it's not also as accurate as parts get swapped, upgraded, replaced.

 

An 86 bird thats all optioned out will have Recaro seats. Dont mean to be a jerk about it but I have seen this, even in magazines like HPP, where somebody ordered a 85 - 86 car with "all the options" and it has the std seats

The 16" rims that everyone loves to call "GTA" wheels are what makes your car a WS6, if in fact thats how it rolled off the line way back when.

The 87 GTA adopted the 86 Trans Am 16" diamond spoke rims, how they wound up becomming a GTA exclusive I will never know lol

 

No offense taken about the seats, although i wish i had the recaro's! I do not have the original RPO code still, however I did meet the original owner at a car show (I am only the third) and he said the car looked just as it did when he bought it, including the wheels, so they were on it from the factory. I always figured it was a WS6, but glad to know it actually is one now. Thanks guys.
