i haven't seen this ?? yet

so let's say i change the color of my car from the original, replace the engine, trans & diff ...can i have the county or somebody update that info from the orginal vin into a new one, and then have vin tags made to supplimint the orginal vin tag on those parts. is it possible ...legal even? the reason i ask is as i customize and refurb my 'bird i'd like the tags to reflect the actual status rather than the manufacturers orginal design.

i just don't want to do anything that would be illegal or suspect.

But how would you ever register the car with your DMV with a bogus VIN number?

No matter what...you cannot change the vin tag. That is your cars "birth certificate"...like a human you can change all sorts of things in/on it. But the car still needs to have its original tags....thats how apprasiers can deturmine value and states can track cars....good idea but it is illegal to do so.
