'83 TA front bumper swap
So I decided to remove the front bumper and ground effects from the TA in order to make it easier to drive up and down ramps while I work on it plus, the ground effects were pretty beat up and falling apart. I happened to find a 82 TA front bumper on EBay that was near my house so I decided to pick it up and see how it looked; I think I like it better. Here's what the car looked like when I got it:

Here's the original gold paint I found under the right side ground effect when I removed it:

And here's how it looks with the 82 front bumper - I threw it on pretty quick and didn't try to line it up completely:

I'm really liking the 82-84 bumper look on this car; any thoughts folks?
Thanks,
Tony

Looks out of place with the rest of the GFX. Throw some 82 GFX on the front of the fenders, see if it cleans up the lines a little.
But ive always been a fan of the 82 nose.

Re: '83 TA front bumper swap
I pulled every thing except the rear bumper cover. It looks like they primered over the lower portion of the doors then punched the holes for the gfx. Here are some pictures:
The right fender:

The right side:

The left rear quarter panel:

There's some rot from the gfx and I think when they punched the hole in the right rear quarter panel for the CB antennae (I still can't believe I found a CB stuffed in the dash) it allowed water to leak into the spare tire compartment and caused some rot to that area.
Enjoy,
Tony

Re: '83 TA front bumper swap
I didnt mean pull the rest of the GFX. I just meant, the 82 TA nose is a little more slender, and the rest of the later GFX sit lower. So the 82TA front fender GFX kinda fit the lines of the old nose, and still swoop down.
It may have cleaned up the lines if you left all the GFX aand used 82TA GFX for JUST behind the nose.
In any case, how do you like the new look?

Re: '83 TA front bumper swap
no arguments there, i just didnt want you to pull everything cuz u misunderstood me. BUt if u were gonna do it anyway, thats great. I also am developing a taste for no GFX, or the early style GFX. Just not many of those cars around, and its nice to see.
I was planning on removing them regardless once I saw the rust and the poor installation. I like the black and gold color combination with 82-84 body styling more so then with the aero package and later gfx. For those cars I prefer a solid color. I personally think a black and gold early third generation TA with its crossfire engine is special and worth restoring to its original styling and color combination.

It's funny looking at your first pic with the wrong nose on there. You can see how the headlight bezels don't match up to the bumper cover. That's because the corner radius shape is different. Now that you have the correct style cover on there they align up again.
In 1984 they made some solid (parallegram shaped) inserts for the bumper. you can find them on any w-62 "aero package" car- any '84 T/A with the (optional) ground f/x. You can use these if you don't want to use the standard "louvered" style parallegram shaped bumper inserts.
Good luck with fixing up your car!

Re: '83 TA front bumper swap
So I pulled off the rear bumper cover this weekend. Along with seeing more of the original gold paint it looks to me like the rear honeycomb absorber and impact bar are the original from 83 but I'm not sure. Here's a couple of shots, please let me know what you think:

Thanks,
Tony

It could be original. it looks about right. Check the rivets that hold the plastic on. the factory used rivets. If they are drilled out/ bolts in place then it's been changed.
