Check out Pontiacs: Third Generation Firebirds and Trans Ams, ISBN: 0-940346-11-7, and Camaro, the third generation, ISBN: 0-932128-02-5. Lots of great history. Here is a tidbit - Chevrolet took the lead of F-car development. Engineering was initially represented by Duane F. Miller but soon replaced by Robert H. Knickerbocker.
