im looking into buying another camaro its a 91z28 that is being offerend to me fairly cheap. now my question is its a 91 the body and emblems show rs but th eowner claims this was done to make it appear as a sleeper. owner claims motor is a zz4 crate motor but with l98 cast iron heads, regardless the vin shows up as the car being a 91 z28 with a 5.7TBI motor. now even if the car is stock why would the vin show a 5.7 TBI motor if the 5.7 only came with tpi just need some advice on this possible purchase thanks

 

The only code for the 5.7 on a 3rd gen is 8 as the 8th digit of the VIN. If it's not an 8, than the car was not originally a 5.7.

 

yeah problem is that when i do a vin check through the dmv the info comes back as a 5.7TBI when its supposed to show 5.7TPI why would this be the vin on the car is for a 5.7 originally also since the car is a 5.7 tpi auto does that mean it is automatically a g92 option car thanks

I would say just some incorrect terminology.

 

i saw a firebird with the 8th digit of the vin as K and the owner claimed 350 T.B.I.this car was for sale at a swap meet. the engine looked factory. i cant remember what model year it was but it was a maroon hardtop with an auto it wasnt a TA maybe a formula and it was in very good condition.
