Hush Panel Years and Differences?

Im in need of a driverside hush panel for a 5 speed and know there is a difference between years. Example i think the fuse cover location is different and clutch pedal cut out. I have a 89 and need to know what years that the panel was the same and what years i can put one on from. Im sure ScottMoyer might know.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

Actually, I really don't know. I think the hush panel was the same for each year but different for the manual/auto setup. Again, I'm not sure. Try setting this up as a poll and request pictures of what people have.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

I agree with Scott, the hush panels were the same, just there was a cutout for the clutch pedal on the manual cars. I took my auto hush panel and cut around the line that was molded in it where the clutch pedal went when I converted mine to a manual.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

I know there are different ones, a repair shop took the ones out of my 84 Firebird and replaced them with a Camaro of unknown year and I noticed that along with the console lid they stole.

It fit, it was just designed differently. There may be a difference Firebird/Camaro but on a part like that I'd be skeptical if there was.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

the drivers side changed for both camaro and firebird in 1990 when the dash design changed. They went from an abs plastic panel held in with the usual 7mm dash screws to a steel plate covered with foam and a rubbery covering similar to that of the dash pad. They are held in with countersunk Allen head screws that receive plastic caps to cover them. I don't know if there were variations in the earlier abs plastic drivers side panels over the years or if there were variations of the passenger side abs panel throughout the 3rd generation years.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

Jeremy comes close. 90+ still has the abs plastic piece as well as the padded panel. It has a larger fuse box cutout, shaped like an "L" since the ALDL is located in the same area on the 90+ cars. The front edge is held in place by metal clips.

There are some variations on the design of the passenger side based on the courtesy light option that I have seen. This could be year dependant.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

82-89 Firebird under dash panels are not the same as the Camaro version. As mentioned, both interiors were redesigned in 90 and got updated trim panels as a result. The Camaro has several different styled trim panels and so does the Firebird. Don't forget that all the AC delete cars also had specific Trim panels to account for the outside air vent boxes. That means there were at least 8 different Camato lower dash trim panels FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE. ( I think all camaros used the same passenger side panel with some later years lacking holes for the courtesy light bulb cover )

Camaro 82-89 Auto
Camaro 82-89 Auto AC delete
Camaro 82-89 Manual
Camaro 82-89 Manual AC delete
Camaro 90-92 Auto
Camaro 90-92 Auto AC delete
Camaro 90-92 Manual
Camaro 90-92 Manual AC Delete

Any under dash panel from an 82-89 Camaro can be interchanged with a little cutting as the mounting points are all the same.

I can only assume that the firebird panels were similar - but the 82-84 dashes might have used yet another additional style due to the early Firebird dash design.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

Ok i guess ill go get one and try to make it work. If the mounting holes and fuse block cover are the same i should be ok right? other than cutting out the clutch pedal slot?

I have the padded panel out of my 1992 Z28 (5.7/auto originally) laying in the garage and can mail you photos if you need them.

I guess the 90-92 underdashes are different because of the new dash design. I also looked at my car manual and like said above 82-84 have a different fuse block, 85-89 have a different block, and the 90-92 are diff. Even though that info is just about the fuse block i think id be best off getting a panel from 85 -89 and just cutting out the clutch pedal slot. All the cars at that junk yard were older (82s, 83s), and then they got a couple 90s there too so i dont want to buy one and then it not work out 100%. Ill keep looking for the right one in other yards. Sorry if im but maybe if we get this figured out it will help other buyers on here decide wich one will fit.

Re: Hush Panel Years and Differences?

I asked RCAR7395 (think thats right) if he had any and hes got tons of them. Im hopefully going to get the right one from him with the square fuse cover and everything. Does anyone know how these are bolted or screwed into place? not a big deal but if some special plastic screw thing is needed i dont have it. Thanks guys
