Hell those guys have tools and equipment that I dont even have acess to!
Plus the shows are edited to death, of course they have to make everything go smoothly so they get the check for whatever new part they are selling that week.
If some company came out with an amazing (or mediocre) new produt that only worked on 82-92 Camaros or Firebirds, gave them a fat check to promote on the show, then you will hear them swear that 3rd gens are the most amazing car in the world.
To add insult to injury the entire point of the project is flawed. How much would you have to drive that car to see your money back after spending $1500 (real world) to get 2MPG? Even at $4.00 a gallon thats 750 gallons of gas........
Was the whole green camaro build pointless and a insult to us third gen guys, Yes.
what do you expect from a ford guy and Ric-er /gangster wannabe aka malibu's most wanted

the Ric-er guy just ruins it for me
i perfer two guys garage over the powerblock i learn more and i am an automotive mechanic too.

i just watch it for ideas and kicks

want to save on gas, maintain your car or buy a fourbanger wither way you will be happy.

What they did was tune up stuff along with a couple of performance mods. The MPG was just an added benefit to more power.

What they did was the very basic stuff that everybody does. How is that an insult by showing the gains of what those mods do?

I think you are missing the point if you are only looking at the MPG return. Making the car more efficient will do both, more power and better MPG.

Sorry maybe I used the wrong wording, but I think the point still stands. They labelded the project "Green" which makes me think that somehow they were going to take this car and make it run cleaner (fewer emissions) and increase its fuel economy with increased power being the added benefit, not the other way around. There was no emission comparision, and I seriously doubt the emissions out the pipe of the car now are any cleaner than they were when it rolled off the assembly line. To spend that kind of money to get a very small return (2 MPG) to me is smoke and mirors, due to the fact that it wont really pay off for quite some time. And to take a crappy running car, emission test it, then dump money into and say "look how clean its running now" wouldnt count.
Add to the fact that there was no "new" product they could promote that could do anything to help with their goal gives you the crappy result and reaction you are seeing here.

Now, why dont they take the turbo Fox body, slap it to an IM 240 tester and see how it does? Do you think that it could still pass an emission test for whatever year it is, maybe so, maybe not. They wont do it but I still bet they make some comment on its fuel economy with the fancy wiz bang turbo from turboparts.com, Edelbrock, insert name here, or whatever other corporate sponsor they are whoring themselves out to that week.

Ok rant over!

The email address was given on page 2, post 87, by BtownZ28.

Or you can do an internet search for "horsepower tv" and find their website address and send them an email thru that method.

I bet its http://www.horsepowertv.com/

Re: Third Gen on Horsepower tv?

Great thread. All I can think of to say is that any PR for the ThirdGen is good in my eyes. Sure, these guys might be advertising puppets but the fact that a Thirdgen was their pallette is a good thing. Might make more folks who are entertained by this show buy a ThirdGen for a project and that's only a good thing.

Lastly, I love my stupid TBI. It starts every morning under all conditions and recently was given the duty of a 60 mile round trip each day when I moved it from California. No problem! 185K miles and counting!

Re: Third Gen on Horsepower tv?

Did anyone else catch the powerblock shows today? Apparently they are going to be selling a few of their builds on Ebay for charity and one of them is the 92 RS that was on Horsepower a few weeks ago. I guess the original owner didn't buy it back. I'll be keeping an eye on it once it's posted to see how high it goes as I can't afford to bid on it right now.

Re: Third Gen on Horsepower tv?

how does a 1992 rs camaro suddenly become a 1994 RS camaro? can some one explain?
Can you increase your gas mileage, and your horse power?. That was the premise behind our “Lean Green Machine” project. This 1994 RS Camaro, 305 TBI, automatic produced 144 hp / 224 torque / 20.3 mpg on our chassis Dynojet. When finished, it made 179 hp / 259 torque / 22.9 mpg. That’s an additional 35 hp, 35 ftp and 2.7 mpg. Here’s what we did it with. LSD? no bob ross pills

i like to know the crack they were on when this was posted because i want some.

Re: Third Gen on Horsepower tv?

Guys, I didn't have time to see all the threads so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. but on the itunes store you can purchase all three shows. They are only 1.99 each. I got the first one because
i didn't see it, recorded the second yesterday and will download the third today on itunes.

just a thought.

Re: Third Gen on Horsepower tv?

Thanks for posting the link to the auction. I didn't think it would be going up this soon. And yes, I'm sure it was a typo, but you would think they would triple-check their listing before submitting it. I expect typos from the average joe listing on Ebay, but I expect more from companies that have their own advertising and legal departments.

Re: Third Gen on Horsepower tv?

the worst part is the missing filter and tubes for the intake they made and is it just me or did one of the pictures look like the head light pockets were painted black? now that's the worst part. And ya they seem to hack at everything.

At least they did not do a front end rebuild like camaro performers mag.

I miss that one guy from muscle car too. He took his time and did great work, the painter and plasma torch guy are horrible.
