Do I have an RS or a Sport Coupe? I have no clue????
Do I have an RS or a Sport Coupe? I have no clue????
Well this is going to sound stupid, but i just bought my 1987 camaro, and i wanted to know if i have the RS model or the base Sport coupe model. Ill tell you a little about the car, maybe you guys can tell me what i have.
Well it has the V6 2.8 MPFI engine, power windows, power locks, power hatch release, tilt steering, automatic transmission with overdrive, ERS Sound System, The middle of the seats are fabric, but the sides of the seats are leather, bucket seats, Does NOT have t-tops, electronic hatch defoggers, manual side mirror adjusters, The original color is a darker red, and the interior is black. I dont know if this helps but it has 3 lights in the car, 1 on the roof, 1 next to the hood release, and 1 on the passenger side where the hood release would be.
So any ideas? Please help!!!

1987 was a busy year for models and options . . .
- The Sport Coupe. The base Camaro.
- The LT (Sport Coupe model option). Introduced to replace the Berlinetta. It's RPO is B4E and they made only 794. A somewhat rare ride.
- The RS. Yes they made a few in '87, but a very few and only to a limited special designated areas.
- The Z28
- The IrocZ (Z28 model option). RPO B4Z.
The Z28 & IrocZ can be eliminated as they never had anything less than 8 cylinders under the hood.
The RS is very unlikely and wasn't commonly available.
That leaves either the Sport Coupe or it's optional LT counterpart. Does your ride have the SPID decal? It's the decal with all the RPO codes. It should be in the console compartment (or less likely, in the rear storage compartment). If it is there, and the VIN on it matches that on the car, then look for the RPO B4E. If it's there, then you have a fairly unique ride for '87, the LT. If it's not, then you have the basic Sport Coupe.

Re: Do I have an RS or a Sport Coupe? I have no clue????
If the car is still factory looking, a quick determinig factor is the front end. Does the car have ground effects and a smooth front end? If so, it may be an early RS. If it has 3 slots in the front end, it could be the LT or a sport coupe. The seats are vinyl, not leather so this would rule out the LT as it was the luxury model and your description sounds like the base seats. The LT had Custom Interior standard. The RS could have come with the base inerior, so the ground effects tells all here.
