IROC vs GTA vs Mustang GT
Here another scan, this time from PHR May 88 comparing the 3 cars...Since there is a 3 limit of attachments, I combined pg 1 with pg 2 & pg 4 with pg 5

Yeah, where's it at?!
Also, why did Chevy send them a non-G92 IROC-Z to test?!

Re: IROC vs GTA vs Mustang GT
I'd like to know how they got the IROC and GTA up to 140 mph top speeds on their tests. 1988 = No WOT 3-4. Come to think of it, I don't ever remember any car magazine having trouble with any of the years in regards to the 3-4 shift issue.
Interesting that the GTA despite being heavier than the IROC and Mustang, still out braked both of them.

GTA = Sexiest
I guess if they wanted an Iroc equivilent they should have sent a Formula in. The GTA wasn't meant to be a stripper racer car, the name means Gran Turismo Americano. It was a Grantouring car, hence all of the doodads and extra weight. The fact that it was slightly faster was simply because of the axel ratio. GTA's were expensive. The final sale price on my 89 when it was bought new was about $22,000, and it didn't have any options besides the CARB emissions option.
Thankfully the GTA package came with all the good stuff anyways.

Re: IROC vs GTA vs Mustang GT
Have to comment on this since I've had both cars. I had an '88 5.0 GT for 10 months before I got my red '88 GTA; stock-to-stock, there's no comparison. The GT would eat the GTA alive every single time. I ended back on the F-body side where I belonged, but man-oh-man, that Mustang was like a damn rocket in a straight line. I'll have another one, a convertible, one of these days....
Still, the comments regarding the article in question and the GTA featured in it are spot-on. Great observations.

Re: IROC vs GTA vs Mustang GT
This article is an example of why I never liked PHR- they never complete the article in one area. you have to "flip to page 84" to read the last 2 paragraphs of the story. I never understood the benefit of doing something like that. I don't believe there is any advantage to cramming the headlines a few pages sooner..

Re: IROC vs GTA vs Mustang GT
I think I agree with the Formula debate if the article was about Performance only... HOWEVER the article was about the collective Performance/Luxury/Every day feel of the cars as stated on the first page...
I can't Wait.... Where is it..... come on lets get it posted.... am I being impatient... I want to see the end...

That's a good article, Stephen. I have it over at my website, but I just transcribed the text instead of posting the article itself.

Re: IROC vs GTA vs Mustang GT
I just didn't want to sit and type pages & pages of it.
I recently got a "small" stack of magazines/ Small, as in, a fair amount of 70's....virtually EVERY issue from the 80s, I had most of the 90s, and about a year ago I got most everything from 2000-up. Mainly Car Craft & Hot Rod, but a lot from PHR for the 80s
So, from 1980-up, there are only a few of each, that I'm missing.
All these & I can't find the 5 Hot Rod issues (a particular article) I want. I'll even settle for scans or photocopies, but I haven't found anyone that has them.
