I just bought a 88 Camaro about a year ago. I know the 2 or the 4 previous owners. It apparently was owned by a relative of one them, and was possibly purchased in Cali. And a lot of the documentation in the car was from Cali.

Were the RS models actually badged RS? Or was it just that any of the Sport Coupes sold in Cali, Florida or Texas a RS?

I ran my RPOs through the decoder, and one popped up for Cali Emissions.

There was qutie a few things i found out that the car doesn't have anymore. Apparently my windows were already tinted, and had white seat belts?!?!?!? Wish they left the tint, cost me $180 to have it done. And the seat belts would have been a nice touch.

I also have a few RPOs that did not come up.

there was a 1AY code and codes for California Emissions, Test Emission, and Cert Cali Emission

I almost sold the car, because i was thinking of getting a 300zx. But after a test drive, i love the feeling of the Camaro more.

I have a 350 sitting in my garage that i thought about trying to swap in. But with gas prices the way they are, that 2.8L is a money saver.

Yes I know it is dirty, I have to take new pictures anyway to show off the exhaust. This is actually my daily driver for work.

 

That car is a V6 88 Sport Coupe. The RS had body colored ground effects and was labeled RS. The rear spoiler was an 88 only Sport Coupe option. No other cars got that spoiler.

The tint was only a minimal tint and is still on the windows. A clear, non tinted window is just that, clear. The tinted windows have a slight green hue. The white seat belt is incorrect. The decoder you used was showing the codes from 91 or later. GM reuses codes and newer descriptions may conflict with the existing options.

 

ok, that answer my questions. The tech file didn't mention what all was different between the RS and SC other than sell locations. I tried using the search option to find out anything, but most of everything i read didn't actually give me too much information as to what was different between the two models.

The windows on there were completely clear when i bought it. So I don't know if they've been replaced or not. I had it tinted and glad i did, it looks so much better.

Well at least i got one thing that is rare for a 3rd Gen Camaro. I actually like how the spoiler looks on there, gives it a nice look without being flashy.

I bought my 88 sport coupe from the original owner.Its got the 305 LO3 motor with auto trans and also has the shorty aero wing.I believe the rpo code is d80(aero wing)

 

Close, the code for mine was D81
