Page 10 of the October edition Camaro Performers you guys get a mention. It seems some folks are ticked off cause of all the 1st gen bias. Rightfully so. Hell, if it isent a 1st, early 2nd, or a 4th then there is no camaro. For a new magazine like Camaro Performer you would think they would cover all cars.

82-92 Just get no play. And to my knowledge they were the biggest sellers were they not?

 

Actually, 2nd Gens had the most sales, then 3rds. Thirds have always been popular, not quite like 1sts among enthusiasts maybe, but definetly in the general public. The problem is that modification-wise they are not very popular because most of them require an engine swap to get alot of power since most are not 350s. Then if they are 350's, to make some big power the TPI usually needs to go. 4th Gens do not have this setback and have a vast aftermarket directed to the LSX's, which were already fast stock and have modern technology. Things are still being developed for them regularly, not so much for us these days. It will get interesting for us again if that BBK intake ever comes out.

As far as just featuring nice Thirds regularly though, they definetly should be!

 

I attended CamaroFest recently--it was a fine get-together and I have no complaints about it. I would mention, however, that out of 154 cars, 100 or so were firstgens--and you can count on a handful at nearly any show you attend. I'd guess the second biggest faction were fourthgens. There were about 15 thirdgens. Last, I think, were the secondgens.

I know the Trans Am nationals are typically dominated by 2nd Gens, then the 4th Gens... it seems that the 1st Gens & 3rd Gens are the most uncommon...

What I find interesting is they almost made as many 1st gen camaros in 3 years as they did 3rd Gen Firebirds in 11...

All things set aside we spoke out when they said something like "If you can stand the stigma why not" referring to a 3rd Gen... There was a backlash nonetheless... What i find really interesting is of the 8 "Firing back" letters 4 of them were from Third Genners... You would think they would get a clue...

I know one of the editors of that mag, Mike Harrington. He drives an '88 IROC. He told me they get more positive response from 1st gens and 4th gens than they do 2nd gens and thirdgens. What can we do, except write more letters?

 

Make sure the mags are bought when they have good Thirdgen content? I don't know how they track sales, but they have to have some method.

I love tgo and want it to be seen and heard of from other f-body enthusiasts. The point of my letter was to inform the editor's that there are nice, fast and well built thirdgens out there. You just have to look around for them, thats why i mentioned tgo, dave..
