Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
On the Yellow Formula.....I stopped by the owners house again. He finally found the original paperwork including the build sheet and original invoice showing the "performance parts" were not covered under warranty. Documentation shows the car had 118 miles when the SLP parts were installed and the owner took delivery.
Ok stop it im drooling!!!!!

Wow, I just followed the story on the link, Congrats Tony! I can't beleive Greg parted with that car!
What are your plans for it? Stock resto I hope!?
I wanted to stop by Greg's place when I drove my JY TA home from Cali in Jan, but we were on such a tight time schedule and I knew that if I stopped by Greg's I would not leave for a while.
Again, congrats! Need more pics when you get some. Funny thing is that I drove right past you in Raymond on the way back from LA with my car, right up I55!

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Greg, I think good deal is a understatement...
Im beyond happy... words cannot describe.. Im still not sure y but im thankful
My plans for the car rite now is finish my garage and collect parts for it.. I will drive it weather permiting..
Im going to keep it as stock as much as I can, paint and all..
We have started the cleanup on it and thats going very well.
I have before and after pix. I will put them all up soon.
I think its going to need a OEM front bumper and maybe a rear bumper.
I will keep all removed stock parts.
It needs interior work, struts shocks, swaybar endlinks and header gaskets in the worst way. Nothing to tough tho
Im hoping to drive it to T/A nats this fall.
RPM WOT L 98. Had I known you went rite by I would have told ya to swing by!!! anyone is welcome anytime!

The thing is I was really close to contacting Greg and seeing if he wanted to sell it...
Now I need to beat you with a stick for beating me to the punch Tony!
I think I want my next one done, so not to take away time from from my wife & kids, ultimately my 5 speed will be for her to drive...

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
The thing thats crazy about this 92 formula is that it is 2-3 options away from what I wanted to order back in Dec 28 1991. including the SLP stuff !!
mine would've had 1LE and a cd player and maybe A/C !!!
I have 1LE brakes, correct 1LE spare and aluminum driveshaft that are going on this 92.
I'll post pix of the orginal order form soon.. unbelieveable story all around.
John are you going to the nats this year ??
could we make it 3 JY cars going in at once ???? or r you bringing the vert ?

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
If I go I would bring my 87, that is the Yellow Gold...
John... I forget his last name, that owns a 1991 JY T/A vert might be there however... He is a member here, really nice car too, he won his class... I think, so he like I would be in the Winners circle.
Keep in mind They are holding the TA nats in a new location this year...
The CD player is not impossible to find... I got one from a junkyard for $100, apparently they are the same as some other Pontiacs like Bonneville. My CD is 90% perfect, the face needed a little cleanup, there is a local place that will rebuild the face for $75, I have considered letting them do it.
The 1LE brake parts are still available IIRC... You might just put the Baer brake kit on it, but then it would not be original... on the 1LE cars did they not have some other braces under the hood???

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Anyone finds a decent JY T-top and manual tranny car preferably a Trans Am, I am interested. I need to add to my collection.......despite the fact I am broke....
Where and when are the TA Nationals this year? I was planning on going if I could with the 84 if it can make the trip, without it if it can't.

Stll cracks me up that for all the third gen crap I have this yellow Formy has stirred up the most chatter.
I mean really....how do you put a price on a practically priceless car (considering the documentation) and Tony's story?

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
I looked it up. Looks like its Aug. 28-30. In Dayton, Ohio as usual 15 minutes off I-70 I think. Don't know why John said it was in a different place. If I am confident that the 84 can make the trip I will bring it and slip it into the original class. Paint falling off and everything. Don't care much about judging yet. I will be lucky to get a couple points.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
John,
I really hope we can get together this year! Its been what 4 years??
I have been buying parts for a car I never thought Id have since 1992!
I have 20,000 mile 1LE brakes spindles to brake hose, a 92 date coded
3rdgen driveshaft and 92 3rdgen CD player.
Greg, you will have a good time at the nats if you (and even the family) decide to go!
I dont think Id be winning any awards at the T/A nats just yet, I go for the people I have meet on the boards and the good times anyway..
I'm going to try to get the story well writen so people will c why this car means so much to me..
Greg, if you have spare time (lol) could you post a pic of the paper I faxed you? if it came through ok.. our scanner isnt that great..
I have a list of parts I need for this car and Im sure I can find them with the help from the board members on here. I have some already orderd 2

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
The TA Nats are at a different hotel this year but still in Dayton OH. The old hotel is being torn down, so it will be at the Marriott off I75 south of I70. Supposedly a nicer place and all cars will be on asphalt! No more grass and gravel crap for class D!!!!!!! '
I had a fantastic time last year, mostly bc I got to meet a bunch of people from here that I have been talking to but never met. It was quite an awesome time and we were all helping each other get the cars ready down to the last second almost!
Anyone who can make the trip is HIGHLY advised to do it! Tipp City cruise on Sat night is just amazing. And then sitting in the parking lot looking at the cars until all hours of the morning is beyond words. Tony, Greg, anyone else, try to make it, whether you bring a car or not.

Not a bad looking car. Rims don't look bad either but I think original diamond spoke rims in either black or gold would look better.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
The Jersey car is a Yellow Gold, it is a little different than the JY color. I like both colors personally.
The car in Jersey has been repainted as the Formula decals are missing, the SPoiler is wrong, The Bottom stripe appears to be black, it should be Darkl Gray. Interestingly it also has the 1988+ Formula Wheel, not sure why but it may be a late 1987.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
I just HAD to put the TOTL on asap. The muffler and tail pipe that was on it just didnt cut it for me.
The cleanup is progressing nicely. The battery explosion and header leaks have kind of eaten away some paint and stained some paint under the hood and im not sure how to get the exhaust gasses/carbon off the surface without removing the paint. not much clearcoat under the hood. The battery tray is the only rust on the car and it is pretty bad, probably have to replace it soon..
Im fixing a bunch of the electrical probs, new window motors, blower motor and head light rebuild kits. While in in the doors, outer glass seals, door handles lock covers and lubing the electric locks so they work.
Ive removed the car alarm, pinstripe ( i just hate that look) and old muffler.
I have put some seats in it, found a good dashpad and other things but the interior has cleaned up really well for the most part.
It needs a clutch, starter and some coolant leaks fixed.
Would it be bad if I swapped in the 6 speed I have in the corner??????
Im also thinking about removing the door moldings, they have dried up and are really crispy along the top..We could paint them but I would rather put yellow NOS ones back on if I ever found them.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
.........I was digging for some infomation and I came across an old article.
Article stated 47 Yellow Formula Firebirds built in 1992. This was from someone who received the infromation directly from PMD service department in the early 90's. This information was also printed in an old magazine (which doesn't necessarly mean it's correct but at least it's something.)
Anywho, Thought I'd share.

AC on the TA appears to be dealer installed?
It looks just like the AC unit on my 91 1LE formy that was installed at the dealer when new b/c it wouldn't sell without AC.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Interesting info on the 47 Formulas. I know that Leo's car (the TA) has aftermarket AC that I beleive he installed. That article is from Hemmings Motor News IIRC.
As for the JY Vert, I was thinking about buying it but it fell through, I don't think anyone on the board has it.
So if 47 Formulas and 35 Verts were built, then how many just regular TAs? I have not seen many at all. We know there were 14 GTAs also.
And that number on the Formulas is all 305 and 350 from what I undertand. So how many of those are L98 CC1 PW7 cars like that one?

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
I am all for that Leo! But the only way that I know of to get the number of JY TAs is to go through the breakdown for all the VIN for 92. This can be done, it is just time consuming as hell. I started it but there is a looooooooooooooooooong way to go.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
I have been informed of some JY Formulas for sale if anyone is interested...
1) in Grant MI, I believe it is an LO3 car, but the price is right $1200.
http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1102934815.html
2) FORMULA 350 HARDTOP http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1110403378.html
Thanks to LimaBravoNiner for these... I would have been more interested in these if they were th LB9/M5 as I want one for my wife to drive... Actually I tried really hard to talk her into letting me buy one of them but she wanted a 5 Speed...
