Re: How old are you?
18 years old.
Got my first third gen at 17 (not my first vehicle, but my first car... I'm a truck guy still).
1987 IROC-Z (T-Top), mild 305, 100 shot, 700R4 trans is what my dad and I ended up building. Going to be building a stroker eventually for it and changing to a TH350.
Just recently picked up a solid roof 1986 Berlinetta (V6 on title) for $350... no rust at all! Previous owner swapped in a 305 with double hump heads and a TH-350 with a shift kit. Planned on dropping a 402 into the car but now I find myself wrenching together a 350; mild cam, 305 hump heads, and an airgap manifold. Got a disc brake rear, posi with 4.10s to put into it. It's being set up for 106 octane fuel and we are shooting for the low to mid 12 second range. Making a Z28 clone , flat blacking the car with spray paint, and gutting the interior.
And I have a 1982 Z28 Pace Car edition Camaro that I am using for a parts car for my camaros and my friend's camaro... wasn't worth restoring it without the title.
Edit:
My third gens are a hobby, the IROC has license plates because it is a father-son project. The '86 is strictly going to be a track car for now and a learning experience for me to build the car on my own... not to mention it's fun to build. Girlfriend is slowly gaining an interest in drag racing (watching me atleast, she's been asking to go to the track); big influence on building the 1986... might make that 12 second car into a 11 second car with some nitrous and rebuild the motor after this season to handle the juice. Not to mention their's other chicks and even guy friends that want to help out with the build and learn how to build a real machine.
I would never consider a third gen to be used as a daily driver. I don't want to get into an argument, but if I were to build a real drag car (10 second or faster) I would not use a third gen. They are stylish cars, they handle great, they look good, but they are not the strongest car (structure wise).

Structure----two words----subframe connectors.
Anyways. Watch your words junior member. Don't bash thirdgens too much,(especially on, yah know, a thirdgen forum)
But your a truck guy anyways. We forgive you.

19 Here. Glad to see I'm not the only young one. These cars rock, because they aren't overpriced, but still have a community following. I think the fact we own the unpopular generation is pretty cool. Take a look around thirdgen.org. Someone who likes thirdgens is miles above the average. "69 was my favorite year." Sort of people. Plus, these cars pull some serious G's, go fast cheaply, and look amazing.

Re: How old are you?
35 here. Had my fair share of third gens. Here's my list
82 Camaro 4cyl/auto Rolled while sleeping and driving
84 Z28 (85 guages?) - scrapped for parts
85 Z28 - scrapped for parts
86 Camaro - wrecked/scrapped for parts
89 Camaro - hit in rear/scrapped for parts
85 Camaro - bought when I was 17. Spent a few years tearing it up as a kid. Ended up taking 13 years to restore into an Iroc clone with 87 Iroc 350 tpi running gear. (The purple one in my picture)
and my everyday driver 01 vert v6
not to mention my other toys I have currently

My first vehicle was a 1984 Camaro "the black one" as it is know, she's my spare parts car got it when I was 15 for 500 bucks put gas in it and drove it home.
picked up my "Red Camaro" or the "Z-28" when i was 17 for 1,200 with a 355 and built trans. didn't like the motor so it's in the garage... i built my own motor, then built another trans just to say i did.
At 19 i got my 01.5 dually 4x4 Laramie SLT water methanol, turbo, inj, built trans, double disc clutch you get the point.... she is a bad bad girl, and a freaking money pit.
Almost forgot my HS grad gift a 1998 Ford Ranger 4cy 5speed, i don't know how this happened?
and for a College Graduation, and i just got laid of my job and have some time to kill I'm prepping the SlOWMARO for drag season, and doing chainsaw sculptings to supplement.

Re: How old are you?
I'm 17 and got my 1989 rs right before Christmas! Course, I didnt get it completely running till after Christmas, but, oh well. I saved for about 4 or 5 months for a new car, then my best friend had this car and was sellin it for $700! I couldnt beleive that all it needed was a fuel hose right above the fuel pump! I'm fixin to do a 350 engine swap as soon as I get the money saved up!

Re: How old are you?
I'm 17. My 89 RS belonged to my 20 year old brother for a year, who later bought a Ford truck (bleh....Fords) and gave it back to my mom, who gave it to me. Everything is as original as the day it was sold in 89 (execept things like some interior issues). Sadly, just a V6, though. About to do a swap for a 305 or 350 tpi when we find one for a reasonable price.

57 ... a lot more older farts here than I would have guessed. Bought my 88 IROC 15 years ago with 35,000 miles. Use it in the summer, now have 66,000 miles. I have always liked Camaros of all generations ... even the newest!

Re: How old are you?
I have had My 89 Iroc for about a year. My friend had it for about 6 years previous to that and he got it of the orignal owner who imported it to Australia and then had it converted to right hand drive. It has about 68000 miles up now still a very nice car.
My wife and i enjoy going on cruses with it we have here in Adelaide South Australia a cruse called the Zipple cruse .http://www.letsgocruisin.com.au/zippel-cruise.html
it is for american cars hot rods customs and Bikes.
Around Xmas this year went one one with 480 vehicles.

I'm 34 going to 35 in December. Got my first Camaro at 18. It was a 1985 MPFI V6. It was my commuting car for college. Finally got my first NEW Camaro in 2000. The 85 had 215,000 original miles and engine. It was still running good before being replaced.

I'm 21, I got my first car and first F-Body two years ago but as a restoration project, it's a 1979 Firebird Esprit.
I bought my second car and second F-Body three weeks ago, it's a 1984 Trans Am HO. I got her for dirt cheap : 700€ ! She runs fine, but needs a bit of work. I'm hoping to drive her this summer ! Can't wait to remove those T-Tops under the sun with the sound of the V8

Mike in ontario, I'm 38. Had countless 1st & 2nd gen camaro's and t/a's. I remember drooling over the player's cars hammering around town when I was a teenager in Montreal, Always wanted one, and thanks to Markzz3, I now have his 87 ta! Started the resto! Hope to get it on the road soon! If anyone is in Niagara, keep your eyes peeled for a pepsi trans am screamin' around town! HEE HEE! I also have a blue '80 z-28 4 gear in the garage I may be willing to part with. Can never go without somthin' to play with.

Re: How old are you?
23 out of Poughkeepsie, NY. Owned my '89 since 2002! Been through 2 motors as
well! both used.. third time is always the "screw it build it brand new" charm!
But, history goes alot deeper! My family owes our old '87 LG4 T/A our
lives basically.. Lost out house in NY, the Trans AM's duty was to get us
to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida safely, one piece.. Which it did and we ended up
out here in AZ a few years later.. which led me to my TPI car sophomore year
in High School.
I was still a boy, however my love for 3rd gen F-bodies are eternal.

Re: How old are you?
I'll be 30 in July.
When I was 16 my first car was a '85 T/A 5 speed, I didn't even know how to drive a stick when I got it but I quickly learned. I sold that car because it burned oil and at the time I didn't know didly about engines. I also had an '89 IROC about five years ago but didn't keep it long due to needing money. Last year I got an urge for another 3rd gen, so I bought a '87 GTA from the classifieds here at TGO.

I'm 37. Got my first Camaro when 19, a 78 Type LT.
Then bought my 71 Camaro a few years later, rodded the crap out of that one.
After that I got my first 3rd gen, a 91 RS.
Then my 84 Z28.
Then my 85 IROC.
And then my latest, a 86 TA.
I've sold them all except my current one, the TA.

I'm 31 for now and I'm in the same boat as you. Trying to keep my 15th anniversary ta as stock and original as possible. At least any changes made would be easily undone. If I were a few years younger it might be a different story.

Re: How old are you?
Salutations! Can here. (pronounced same as John) 28 y.o Turkish guy living and working in Romania, at a construction site in Bucharest. Civil engineering is my profession but most of the time remaining from 13 hours a day working is devoted to things related to my car, including browsing here. Until I get satisfied with it and find a new hobby maybe, but not anytime soon I believe.

Re: How old are you?
Im 22. Grew up around thirdgens cause my dad loved them back then, he owned about 5. Got my first camaro
(87 white iroc hardtop) when i was 16, I was looking for months, then when i was asleep, my mom woke me up and my dad suprised me late at night with an iroc-z (best day of my life!). Loved that car....Later sold it cause we were moving.
few years later i bought an 88 iroc-z t-top. had it for 2yrs then sold it. Cause is was a basket case.
Now im on the hunt for a iroc-z again, and make it a keeper.
<----On my Avatar pic, thats me when i was a baby on top of my dads yellow 87 iroc-z when he bought it new.

Re: How old are you?
im 62 and i got my first car around 1959 - too young to drive but old enough to take it apart and not get it back together.
worked on first first car about age 10 - my friend had an older brother who raced flat head rails on hawthorne blvd in so cal. it was fun and i learned a lot.
worked on the 283 a lot - bore to 301, stroke to 317 or was it 18.
worked on tri power - mechanical injection and all that stuff.
then got a new car - brand new car in 65 and did not do much more than polish it.
did not work on any of the cars until i started playing with the 90.
new vw bug in 70.
new toyota in 71. traded it for used 71 lotus europe - still have it today.
got a bunch of new cars and in 71 got my first new camaro.
got another new camaro in 75.
got another new one in 78.
got another new f/b in 80 - trans fell out 2nd day i had it.
got a new camaro in 85 - i think, was a cross fire.
got a new camaro in 90 - still have that one.
got a new camaro in 90 but it was a 91 model year in april 90.
only one i worked on is the 90 - trying to relive my youth.

Re: How old are you?
Im 46, live in central Kentucky. Bought my 88 305TBI RS Camaro back in 1994. I was the second owner, car had 35,000 when I bought it. Camaro took back burner for many years. It is a labor of love as many of you know!
Dropped the motor out last winter, restoring as money and time allow. Have a great day!!

I am 18.
to that zfraff guy, I don't see how a title affects restoring a car if you actually plan on restoring it. it's around $150 for a title.

Re: How old are you?
Im 27 years old. Got my first 3rd gen when i was 22. It was a 89 RS 305 tbi, convert to a carb and blew the trans not long after. Found out the car was in a major wreck and frame damage was done......bought a 2nd 3rd gen when i was 25 another 89 but this time a IROCZ 350 tpi t-top rear disk brakes...you name it, it has it (cept leather 1le and dual cats). Sold it to my dad to keep away from the soon to be ex wife at the time and now im buying it back from him. HAHAHAHA!
