Questions about my 87 IROC Z outer door skins
I just started noticing alot of the member forum Camaros. The thing I noticed most was that they all seem to have that middle divider that gets put in the center of the doors and fenders etc... My IROC does not have that. Am I in need of them?

Re: Questions about my 87 IROC Z outer door skins
It was an option.
The strip changed, and there are two versions. The first I think went from 1982 - 1987 and the second was larger and went from 1988 - 1992.
The same strips were used on Firebirds, but the Firebird got the new strip starting in 1987 instead of 1988.
Personally I prefer the Later wider version...

Interesting. I thought they were missing and they would be of good use especially when it comes to preventing door dings in some ways.
Re: Questions about my 87 IROC Z outer door skins
RPO B84 Molding, body was $60.00
RPO B91 Molding, door edge (black) was $15.00
Gm did install it on a lot of IROCs & other models and increased the sticker price by doing so.

Interesting. I wonder how many forum members went and added it to theirs? I see you have an 87 IROC... did your IROC come with this option?

Re: Questions about my 87 IROC Z outer door skins
I recently checked my RPO codes and I do have the B84 option. Looks like the previous owner did not put the strips back on. Looks like I will have to go look for some and put them on.
Re: Questions about my 87 IROC Z outer door skins
I have both and the costs were on the window sticker. I bought mine out of Dealer stock, so I had no choice if I wanted them or not.

I did find it interesting that your car had the L98, but did not have the strips. Many if not most of the cars that I have seen that are well optioned, IE L98 etc and are not a special edition 1LE or Players car came with the strips...
I have found that when you remove them to paint they often stretch and are no longer straight. I spoke to a professional painter and he recommended leaving them on when he did the repaint... I took them off anyways and used a Long straight edge that I taped to the fenders and put them back on. Mine are dead nuts straight when you look down the car, it took me about 30 min or so to do each side, but it is better than something crooked...

Be careful with a repaint you can peal the paint off when you go to remove the door bump guards... If done correctly no problems, but if they did not scuff it well enough the paint may not adhere as well as it should...

Ok i think we are misunderstanding each other here. The door bump guards I do not have on my car but the RPO codes states it came with it. I thought you were referring to the striped decals above the ground effects.

OK, I too was confused... I thought you stated that you did not have the bump guards, but now want to remove them...
Actually to remove the stripes GM makes a solution that is supposed to disolve the stripe, without harming the paint. At least they used to, I remember seeing it in a GM Parts Counter...

Hmm..is this similar to the sticker shocker you can purchase at the auto stores?? This gets behind bumper stickers/decals and softens the glue for ease of removal.
