Firebird XS Billboard ads
Now here's a couple of photos of some old types of ads that probably no one has seen before.
These were taken way back in 1989!
Pontiac's billboard ads for the new Firebird XS, which is the Southern California (Los Angeles area) version of the 1989 Firebird with the Sport Appearance package.
Pontiac had 2-3 versions of this, sitting on the Freeways of Los Angeles.
This one is right on the 405 Freeway (San Degio freeway).
This one, the Holleywood Freeway.
These were talked about on this board before, so I thought I would dig them up and post them.
Enjoy!
George

Wasn't the XS kind of like the RS equivelant? In selected markets, but it never took off like the RS did...

Very cool! I saw mint XS on ebay a year or so ago.
I am not sure if not "taking off" like the RS was any factor in them dropping it.
Wasn't 90 the last year anyways? In 91 Firebirds had GFX like TAs so the XS would have been redundant

Re: Firebird XS Billboard ads
Hi Kizz!
Ya, I stop by every so often.
And yes, I have some other photos of thirdgens.
Quite alot of '89s and up, sitting on dealership lots, and some of them sitting on the showroom at all the Greater Los Angeles Auto Shows(including fourth gens).
The XS and the SSA were emblems put on the cars during part of the introduction of these cars with the Aero Package (W68).
These cars were also known as "XS" and "SSA" Firebirds.
The XS was the introduction in the Los Angeles area, and the SSA was the introduction in the Sacramento area.
The third area introduction was Denver.
I have never found out if there was any "emblems" for that area.
They continued on as just W68 Firebirds, up to 1992 (and then again, during the mid to late fourthgen years).
Not all Firebirds got these packages during the entire run, as quite a few Firebirds were just plain jane versions without the aero packages.
Hope this answers questions for you,
George

I hope you can find the time to post more pix, especially of new 3gens on dealership lots. I love these vintage pix of our cars! Thanks

hulk619, this is the same forum as the last one you posted in asking for production numbers. You don't need to post in every thread asking the same question.
