9 bolt borg warner rear end vin numbers
When I got my 1991 RS Camaro the owner had cut a 9 bolt Borg Warner rear end from another Camaro at a junk yard. It had a tag but kind of hard to read but I have most of the letters and numbers. How can I find out what car this rear end came from and what it is geared at and what year it was made in? Any help would be great and a good start.
Thanks

There should be some numbers stamped on one of the axle tubes... I want to think it was the Drivers side.

you can pop the diff cover and roll the ring gear around and the actual ratio is stamped on the side of it.

My 9-bolt didn't have any numbers stamped on the axle tubes, it was all on a tag. One cheap way is you can rotate the wheels and count the number of times the yoke turns, if it turns 2 3/4 times around it would be a 2.77, 3 1/4 it would be a 3.27 etc etc

Just checked my axle yesterday, no stamped numbers, but think that was GM markings only for the 10 bolt. I only have a tag bolted to the diff house. Production date is there IF you have the tag. Rear gears I think have embossed value of number of teeth. Should be located on the larger ring gear.

Now that you mention it I do remember that now... I think you are right, the gear ratio is actually on a tag that is bolted to the Dif Cover... There was a larger tag with instructions to add the posi additive on the other side
The ID is 1) on the tag, and I think it was 2) identified by the large sticker...
The Tag has a Part number of the Axel, and the Gear Ratio
