1985 IROC -I'm looking at another car!
1985 IROC -I'm looking at another car!
I'm not giving up on finding a 3rd generation!
I'm going to look at an 85 IROC Saturday. Its has the LB9 TPI motor, black, 70k miles all original including paint, came from Florida and has never been driven in the winter or rain. The seller has had it for 6 years and indicated that the only problems are;
1) A little hazing on the paint, that doesn't show too much when it has a good wax job
2) It was stored for the winter and after he reinstalled the battery the tach is acting funny.
3) The interior is imaculate except for a little chip on the corner of the drivers side of the dash.
The emailed pictures all look good, but I have learned the hard way that they all look good, unless the car is real bad!
He is asking $5,500.00, but did say he will accept less.
Any opinions on the "fair" price to offer and/ or why the tach is acting funny?
Thanks,
Glen

becareful!!! it sounds like a great deal but that car may have been flooded!
when you go and look at it, look at the brackets on the bottom of the seats for signs of rust. also check the flood plugs on the back of the car and make sure they havent been removed and replaced. just my 2 cents, not trying to tell you how to cuonduct your business.
good luck and i hope you find the third gen you love.
what color is this car? the tach could be as simple as a bad connection at the distibutor. if it's broken you can pick one up at the junkyard for a few bucks.

Re: 1985 IROC -I'm looking at another car!
I looked at the car today and it is pretty original. Maybe I'm too picky but not sure about this one.
Good stuff
1) CAR fax verifies 71,000 mile and no reported accidents.
2) Interior good except the driver side end of the dash -and a funky smell.
3) Good or bad -no t tops, no power windows or locks etc., but does have the clock in the center console?
4) Black paint looks good 50'/ 50 mph.
5) Exhaust looks and sounds good -stock type replacement?
Problems
1) Original 16" Rims Good, but tires not so much
2) Front and rear facia very faded.
3) a couple of long deep scratches on the doors -almost like a keying, but not too bad.
4) Passenger fender sticks out past the front edge of the door and I can see grey primer in the jamb and back underside of the hood -door decals bad and missing stripe.
5) Doors and hatch locks don't use the same key.
I took pictures and they definitely do not show the paint issues -it looks great on emailed pictures. The owner wanted $5,500.00, will take $4,800.00 -I'd offer $3,800.00 -$4,000.00 -anyone have an opionion on what this car is worth based on the limited data?
Thanks,
Glen
