Re: iroc ss
Are you saying an IROC-Z Super Sport? If that's what they say it is - it's not; they don't exist.

Re: iroc ss
just making sure is it possible to have bought the decals or would they have to be custom made? and the embroidered seats and door panels were they sold to do something like a conversion
Re: iroc ss
The IROC-SS emblems were available for the El Camino in the same or similar font as the IROC-Z so it makes for an easy swap. The rest is a one-off. The car was not made by any aftermarket companies or factory or dealer. It was created by either this owner or a past owner.

Re: iroc ss
I have an extremely vague recollection on this matter. Please help me get it straight. There was indeed an El Camino SS produced for many years. An El Camino was the IROC pace car on one (?) occasion. Subsequently, an aftermarket demand for IROC decals developed for installation on an El Camino. Was the El Camino pace car an SS? If so, was it 'approriate' to place an IROC decal on other El Camino models?
Re: iroc ss
The El Camino was a pace car for the IROC series race only. The IROC-SS El Camino was created by Choo Choo Customs in 1985 and 1986 only. Completely aftermarket. there were only a handful created. The reason it had the SS name was because it used the Monte Carlo SS front end instead of the standard Malibu/El Camino front end.

Re: iroc ss
Fake just like mine.
The funny part is no one has ever questioned them.
I hear them say oh it's an SS like they know this for a fact.
Never do they actually ask me if it's real.

Re: iroc ss
I had the pleasure of being assigned an El Camino by my employer in the early 80's. The vehicle was nice to drive and I loved the convenience of the bed. It also had a nice interior as a recalled. I also drove a Ranchero for a couple of years. The El Camino was superior.
By the way, it was not an SS nor an 'IROC'.

Re: iroc ss
Sorry to hijack, but what do you guys make of this? Keep in mind that I bought this car brand spankin' new in 1990. Factory mistake? Dealership stupidity? (for the blind, note the RS emblem in the rocker panel) The other side has the correct IROC-Z emblem.
Re: iroc ss
Now thats funny! Must be a dealer mistake. Check your RPO codes to see what car it actually is.
Re: iroc ss
The emblem was stolen and the dealer grabbed up the wrong emblem thinking the new owner wouldn't know the difference or care. The fact that it's been there almost 20 years tells me the dealer was right. If that car came from Pennsylvania, I would say that I may have YOUR emblem!!! LOL

Re: iroc ss
When we ordered the 89 IROC it was delivered with the IROC-Z emblems on both rockers but the RS emblem on the rear. Mistake in Van Nuys. The dealer ordered another IROC-Z emblem and it was replaced. I am guessing thats what happened with his car as well. Since our car was sticker delete maybe the assembly line person sticking the rear emblem didnt notice it was an IROC. The only real give away would have been the hood and the wheels. Oh and the 5.7 tuned port injecion right next to the emblem but they still made the mistake non the less.

Re: iroc ss
It kills me to think of all of these things that happened on the assembly line. I know of a GTA that was missing one of the sail panel bird emblems FROM THE FACTORY, he has one to put it on but never has... I have heard of Camaros with Firebird interiors, and Vise-verse, Now we have IROC-RS cars running around from the factory...
Then you get people out there saying it is not supposed to be that way (not in this thread)... Well DUH! of course it is not "supposed" to be that way but crap like this happened every day on the line, most things were caught by the time they went to the customers, but there is nothing like seeing a S15 brand new that has S-10 on the Left and rear of the car and S-15 Grill and S-15 on the right side of the car... cars are assembled by human beings, when we settle and realize that things like this happen, it is the way things are...
Don't know why I went there...
As for the SS conversation... Back around the time of the IROC-S (El Camino) Choo Choo customs did make a Camaro SS (note that it was based on the Base SC Camaro) CCC also offered a SX camaro and a Team Camaro to round things off... Basically CCC was a company that did mostly van conversions, and then decided to get into come car customizations... Love it or hate it, it is what it is and what it was, we cannot change it, nor will complaining change anything now, all we can do is live with what there was and is.

Re: iroc ss
Back when I was looking at shiny new IROCs, I saw a white one at another dealership. They couldn't explain why it had 91 wheels and tires on it. It was sitting in the show room. :-/ I figured it must be a recovered theft and moved on. At the dealer I purchased mine from, I saw a white IROC with no decals or fog lights. Living in houston, I couldn't see buying a car with no A/C so I quickly passed it by. I just didn't know what it was.......
Edit: I bought my car in late 1990 (July or August I believe) and the new cars were hitting the show rooms already, but there were a few IROCs scattered around town. Mine had been on the lot for 12 months. Had 21 miles on it when I test drove it. I even saw a ZR-1 going for only $40K over sticker........
