Casting number locations
Hey Everyone Im having trouble finding some engine block numbers I think one engine is a 400 and the two other engines might be 307 but i cant find the casting numbers on the block. Does anyone have any ideas were the number might be on block?

SBC Chevies I think were all on the RH side on a casting piece that extends past (forward of ) the passenger side head. It would depend on the year whether it is behind the alternator or the AC compressor... Typically you have to remove the Alt or the A/C compressor to see it...
There are some numbers also often cast into the rear housing where the Transmission attached... Third gens typically have 5.0 or 5.7 for example...

on the bell housing behind the driver side cylinder head will be a series of numbers(7 or 8) that is the casting number. there will also be a date code casting to the right of that. the numbers on the pad in front of the pass side cylinder head is the production stamp.
