Hi all -


After sitting for 10 years, with the windows open, I have finally been able to begin the tear down of my '85 Trans Am for restoration.


I need to gut the entire interior due to mold and other potential foreign inhabitants which means the entire dash needs to come out.

I am at the point where the dash is about ready to come out, but noticed there are 3 rivots holding the dash together underneath.

I have 2 issues,

1) What's the best way to remove these, and
2) upon replacement, will I need to re-install rivots in order to prevent squeaking and such?


Any advise or insight is greatly appreciated!

10 years dang did you find it this way?

 

Believe it or not, it was my daily driver 10yrs ago. I've missed it and ultra happy to have her back!


I was only able to put an intake manifold, Hurst shifter and full exhaust when I was driving her regularly. Now she's a full restore project. We'll se how it goes.

 

Everything takes time,but take your time and do it correctly and it'll pay off.

 

Double check that there are no bolts that are still holding it in..There are some riveted parts but they are parts of the dash. You can remove the dash without removing the rivets.IIRC

 

I don't think there's any rivets that hold the actual dash in -- I was able to take the dash out of my '91 just by taking all the bolts out.
