History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I thought I would revive this pic and this car, in case anyone is interested in it. A 2.5 liter GM 4-cylinder getting low 13's and putting out 272HP, in 1983. Not bad, considering the mass-production Iron Duke put out 88HP at the time.

Re: Super Duke at the May 1983 LA Auto Show
I want to think that I may have an article about a similar engine that they were putting in racing Fieros. it even has GM part numbers to make the engine IIRC...
If I get a chance to scan it in I will... of course I would have to find it first.

The real 1984 Indy Fiero Pace Car had a version of the Super Duty.

The article I have has the GM part numbers as well.

Last Page...
There is actually another article about the Fiero, in the booklet/Mag which also gives specs and how to modify parts etc etc etc. I do not have time to actually scan them all in.
That is so awsome! I would love to have an iron duke Camaro whooping on some LS1 cars. And it's pretty cool they did that back in 83. I would like to see what they can do with todays technology on that motor. Adam :-)
If anyone has any more bits of information of pictures of this Super Duke, it would be greatly appreciated as i'm about to make a 1/10 nitro powered replica of this car in the upcoming months.
Like that spoiler for example, can't see anything of it and can't for my life find anything that looks like it. Looks like a mini Trans Am/GTA like spoiler? Not sure what to think of it.

Re: Super Duke
I don't think there is anything better for a picture of the spoiler, unless someone comes up with one.
On doing research from the 1980's unlike today where you can find a picture of just about anything you want, there are pictures of cars, like this one, that you cannot find. Unique pace cars for example that no one bothered to take a picture of using film...
Back in the day, you go to a car museum, and you just left it at that, today people take all sorts of pictures with digital, as it is essentially free to do so. Way back when no one took pictures of things like spoilers, or anything because they used film, film and processing was expensive...

True.. shame that those details can't be found anymore though. Even the first picture on this thread seems to be lost saddly.
When i look at the rear spoiler, i could only imagine a topdown view to look a bit like this:
But then again its most likely all wrong. Hard to make up details that are unseen.
I get that this is an ancient thread, but I've found some interesting info on the DGP kit for folks skulking about here (like me). The brochure includes dimensions for anyone looking to take a swing at reproducing the pieces. It may be there was no spoiler on the car in the Pontiac Performance Plus article, instead a reflection of the sky in the paintwork that gave the impression of something on the trunk
That's the ISMA car, with its infamous hood. I would like to see the hood produced again. Best looking fiberglass hood ever made for Firebirds, IMO. Would be even hotter in carbon fiber.
The rest of the body kit isn't bad either, as body kits go.
I wish I could find an old SD cylinder head ... have a 2.5L project that could use it.
you should check with Norris. Ill bet he has it. He has a copy of the IROC series camaro hood. Not that ugly daytona hood thats available. I dont remember what hood he had on his late model in the photo.

Any ideas on how to contact him? Nick Norris? Same as Nutek or different?
If I could find *this* for an 82-92 firebird I might build a 3rd Gen lol... Hmmm that's the body line I like. I'd probably mess with them, but that's real close. I'd actually sharpen them up on the top edge and then shave the sides with a larger wheel opening...
With a notch back and a nightrider front end, with three pairs of the little led block headlights off a cyber truck...
I've got a whole idea going but can't find a widebody this style lol.

Norris Racing makes the Pontiac version too. That's what his personal car is.
