is my gta a G92?
I have a 1988 trans am gta it is also a ws6 does this make it a G92? the only thing that i know would be different if its a G92 is the rear end ratio would anything else be different/better?

RPO codes are on a sticker in the center glove box or left rear glove box doors.

It is possible that the build sheet could be in the car. Have to look under the rear seat. Could be under fronts or stuck in behind interior body panels.

ill strip search the car and call the previous owner. is there any other way to figure RPO out or at least if its a G92?

G80 is posi right? if so i know for sure my car has one G92 is axle ratio if its not G92 its 2.77 and if its a G92 its 3.27 in the 9bolt the 2.77 had a 2 series carrier and any ratio above 2.77 had a 3 series carrier and i want to put lower gears in my 9bolt and not having to upgrade carrier's would save me over $400 in my quest for lower gears

Should be a tag on the rearend that gives the ratio. Should be mounted using one of the bolts for the rear cover.

I had 4.11 in my gta for a while, liked the 3.73 much better!
Seemed like a better street gear with the 700R4 auto. I did have a CPT/Art Carr transmission with a 10" 2800 non-lockup converter.

The 4.11's were great for the 60' times. The 3.73 with the setup I had did better from 60mph + up.
To me the 4.11 seemed to be too low for the highway.

i want killer 0-60 but i also need decent 60-100 should i go like 3.73 or would 3.9 or be better for me? im trying to plan out all the mods i can do in the near future.

The 3.90 vs 4.11, you could not hardly see any differance. The 3.73 vs 4.11 there was little difference performance wise other than rpm 60+ mph.
The main thing is to know how much hp you will be making and at what rpm range it will be making it.
The 700R4 has a low first gear. The problem you will have on the street is getting traction with the lower ratio.
I would ask more people what ratio they use and with what tires. 4.11's will effect you MPG alot!

For the most part we can look at Chevrolet and apply it to Pontiac. This is NOT the case when it comes to G92.
G92 was more or less a Camaro option. From 1987 Pontiac retained 4 models, and they were all a little different. The GTA and Formula when equipped with the L98 or with the LB9/M5 should all have the "G92" equipment including the Performance gear, but they will not have the G92 RPO. (note there were some exceptions when talking about exported cars) In 1988 the 1LE Trans Am would have had the G92 option, as would 89 & 90. The 1991 and 1992 Formula and Trans Ams also would have had the G92 option when they were equipped with the G92. The Trans Am had another option for the performance group when paired with the L98 or the LB9/M5 it was something like R6P or something along those lines. Keep in mind that the Pontiac was a step up from the Camaro so they were treated with more options standard.
Since Camaro only had 2 models from 1988 thru 1992 they probably did not want to limit themselves to a single gear ratio, matter of factly the Camaro offered the G92 every year IIRC where I am not sure if the Firebird ever offered it until 1988 when the 1LE became available.
The Aluminum drive shaft was a separate option.
To answer your question, YES YOUR GTA more or less has the G92... well it has the equivalent to it at least.
At 70 Mph you should be reading about 2000 RPM on your Tach. around 1750 would indicate the 2.77, and 2250 indicates a 3.73..

It's listed that way in the tech data because the chart tries to encompass the Camaro and the Firebird in one chart. The chart shows that the L98 was only available with the 3.27 gear set, don't worry about the qualifiers (G92, optional) since they don't really apply to the year, model, drivetrain, in question. Before some nitwit split up the tech data into individual years, the chart covered from 82-92 all in one nifty reference chart, and some of the things leftover from the old format just don't make a lot of sense now.
