92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
In my quest for a 3rd gen I found this car. I just received the pictures from the kid this morning. He sounds very young, I think he was at football practice when I called him. Anyway, I asked for a picture of the RPO codes in the console he said it wasn't in there. Is it in a different place on the newer cars? I was wondering about it saying its a 5.7 and having T-tops. I thought that I read the 91-92 cars didn't come out with T-tops/Convertibles with the L98. He is asking $6500.00 but he said he has $4000.00 in the stereo, which I could care less about. I would like to get this car and save it from a teenager if its a correct car and I could get it cheap enough.

I dont think the grill should be painted the same color as the car.

I just did a search and found that the RPO code sticker is in the left rear storage compartment.

I would check that car out carefully. T-tops & the 5.7 were not available as a factory option in 92. It may be a 5.0. The car has a Heritage badge on the hatch along with the stripes. That makes it more interesting if correct.. I don't know off hand what the rpo code is for that package. The red outside/red inside turns some people off. I find it very attractive & think in the long run will be one of the sought after color combos. IMHO of course....You are correct about the front grill not being the body color. It should be black on a Z28... Good luck if you decide to pursue purchasing her.

Re: 92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
I sent him an email letting him know where the RPO code sticker is. The kid knows absolutely nothing about the car. I asked him if it was a posi, rear disc brake and he said, "I don't know anything about that ****". I will wait to see the codes. I like the red on red myself. It seems like you see a lot of 1LE's this way.
Re: 92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
The rear badge has been replaced. It looks too new and is too close to the edge of the indent. The RPO for the Heritage Edition is Z03. The Heritage Edition did come with a matching color grill.

Looks like a 305 car to me...............the 'F' as the eigth digit in the VIN as well as the LB9 on the RPO sitcker confirms its a 305 TPI car from the factory.

It does have the ZO3 code so it is a Heritage Edition. Nice.
Scott,
I thought it was the RS that came with the body colored grill and the Z28 had the black?

Nice car. Wish mine had the factory CD player.

yeah. That is a very nice car. I would love to get a Z03 car. They are the ****. Try and get it off him even if it is a 305. Looks like it is a pretty clean car.

Re: 92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
Tough to say w/o seeing the car in person. If it is a kid who has it who knows how its been taken care of. Some are meticulous. Most just run their cars to death & only repair what they need to.
Re: 92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
In regards to the lower grill being body color, I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I have seen the original 3 colors of red, white and black with red, white and black grills on the Z28. Not saying that someone didn't color them, but the white is the one I've seen the most on white cars. I have also seen a white car with a black grill. Was it replaced? I don't know. Who knows more about Z03 color schemes? You need to chime in!!
Re: 92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
Yes the grill is red for a red Z03 car. Unless he put the 350 in it, its a factory 305 car. It is a very nice looking car. It is my cars twin, body wise. Mine is a hard top 350 car with gray leather. I paid $ 6,000 for mine, but its cleaner. I think $ 4,500 would be a fair price for it. That is as long as it runs & drives good.

I thought they would have 3.23 or 3.42 but obviously I was wrong- 2.73 must have been the standard ratio on non-G92 cars. I've got the orginal GM parts catalog, I'll look & see if it knows.

It looks pretty good to me and has some rare options it seems. I don't think you see factory CD too often. and the the 305/ t-tops is nice too. the only thing that would make it better IMO is if it was a manual.

Someone might correct me (and it's been years since I've looked over the info, but I used to be pretty good with those questions).

He spent $4,000 on a stereo, but couldn't spend $30 on a set of floor mats?
I wonder if he ever changed the oil?

Maybe if he paid 2 grand to have it installed and paid full price for everything. That looks to be some valor-ish brand flipout, decent quality for what you pay for but far from being considered "nice" the sub and jl amp are quality but I actualy have one of the other "audison" amps i got for 20 at a flea market...sounds horrible.
seems like a decent car other than the walmart chrome.

just to add my two cents... the audio equipment is expensive, but it isnt 4000 dollars expensive. unless of course those are focal components. but i very much doubt that. i would say that entire audio setup isnt worth more that 1200-1500 max new, but thats just from what i can see

Re: 92 Z28 I found on craigslist. Is this correct.
I have some pictures on my phone but cant get them off. If anyone knows how to hack a Verizon Motorola phone let me know....I have texting turned off so that I cant send anything. The car needs work, it is a good starting point for what I plan to do. It has the usual interior problems, drivers side seat bolster, head liner starting to come loose, dirty *** carpet, but the dash is perfect
. Its been repainted, and the paint job is horrible. I will probably tear it all the way down as soon as I get it. Anybody ever seen one of these on a rotisserie? I have a friend that has one, I might flip it on its side and clean/paint the bottom.
The kid with the car in this thread finally called me tonight and asked if I was still interested....i told him I bought a car. But, after I got off the phone with him I started thinking maybe I should buy his too. Which one would you guys think would be the better car to have in the long run? I just noticed that the car that I just bought looks like the car at the top of the Home page in the Hawks ad.

Hard to say. On one hand his car is a Z03 car, but in my opinion the one you just bought has much better options. I guess if you have the extra cash, and you can get a good deal on the '92 why not get it too? Fix both of them up and have 2 nice Third Gens! Then if you get a bind for cash you can unload one of them and at least you'd still have one!

Thanks for the advise....The one I bought definitely needs more work... I guess I could sale it...I got the pictures off my phone. No interior pics though. The kid told me he would take $3500.00 for the car in this thread. Here is the one I bought.

I know I'm late on chiming in, but what is your time like?
I now have four Thirdgens myself and one is going through a ground-up while two need some major work and one some minor stuff, and time is an issue. But, I just can't bear to part with the cars
If the work is just minor (cosmetic bolt-ons, etc), then I would say go for it. My wife is talking his and hers GTAs LOL
