91-92 tail light delamination

my 91-92 gta tail lights are starting to seperate I can't find any after market companies that make repops, or even companies that can refinish these. Aside from replacing the tail lights, do you guys have any tips to repair mine?

Here is what they look like disassembled:

This thick black grid is what seperates from the clear lens and is supposed to be impossible to remove.

Well, here it is after removal: pay attention to the etched looking grid. See the swirly parts? thats where the delamination would have been. Not sure what causes it, but it appears to still be there even after removing the grid.

I'm thinking of doing this, and then either tinting the interior part of the lens, or taking the grid plastic to a vinyl place to see if they can make a vinyl section to put on the inside of the taillight. I'm not sure if the grid pattern on the clear would show through as white/lighter than the tint or vinyl. Unfortunately noone else has tried this so I have nothing to go on myself

Very interesting. I am very curious as to how this ends up.
If I understand you correctly, the separation happens between the black grid and the clear outer lens? If so, what does the separation look like from the outside after the grid is removed? I'd like to see a pic, it seems that you "should" be a able to somehow refinish the area that usually delaminates with lets say a coat of paint of tint paper, then put them back together.
I am not sure what the outside looks like when the black grid is removed. Really want to see a pic of the outside...

It's hard to tell from the pics provided earlier, but if the separation is still there after the grid is removed, what about wetsanding and polishing the inside of the taillight, this would remove the separation. Then paint or tint paper on the inside, it would be nice if you could get tint paper cut with the grid...

PM FYRCHKEN about how he did his.

He pulled the delaminated grid out too, then put in a custom "grid" pattern (circles) in place of the rectangular grid.

Can't tell it isn't stock, if you didn't know what they are supposed to look like.

Subscribed.

I've kept my originals just for something like this, although my new ones aren't going on until my car is out of the body shop...
