Just picked up my first Iroc. Would like some info
Its an '86 TPI auto T-top Black ext., black interior, gold rims and decals. I've googled black irocs and have not found any with black interior. Some with gold wheels but they were all tan interior. I really wanted a Blue one but I'm pretty picky about condition and all the Blue I found within my region of the U.S. were completely dogged out or $10K. I got this car for $1,300. The interior is about 9/10, body panels and or rust 8.5/10, weatherstripping 9/10. It runs like **** at an idle and will die from time to time. I plan on taking it to a mechanic hopefully they will figure it out. I flew in and drove it home(750 miles without breakdown). Miles is 99,000. Any ideas on what this would be worth after I repaint it and how rare it is?

WHo would know without seeing it after you get it done. You could get an Earl Scheib paint job for $199 or you could get a $5k job at a body shop. I find it hard to believe that the the interior is a 9/10 on a $1300 car. The fact that you mention rust in the body panels or rust area and say 8.5/10 tells me that it should be maybe at best a 5. What you think is mint will be far from mint to another guy or vice versa. We cannot provide a value assessment without seeing the finished product and without having an Appraisal Certification.

hi, i have a iroc just like the one you describe, black int, and black ext, with the gold wheels and stipes. Here is a pic of mine after a repaint waiting for money for new decals and hood louvers. I would love to see pics of your car. My vote is to leave it black, you dont see many like these

Yep thats the same model as mine it like. I do plan on repainting it in black. Got any idea of how many there were like this? After repainted and the idle problem is taken care of I'd like to get around $5,500 for it. I don't think thats too unreasonable for someone who is looking for one. There are so many Iroc-zs out there that I feel are beyond the point of worth trying to bring back to a nice car. Like I said looked at over 25 before I decided to take this one. They sold it that cheap because of the rough running idle and stalling and i flew in to drive it home 1/3 the way across the U.S. They thaught I was nuts to try it but 10 hours later I was home trouble free. If it wasn't for hitting snow and ice 300 miles of the trip I would have made much better time.

Little faith has nothing to do with it. And we don't know nearly enough about who you are to assume anything, genius or idiot. Heck, I've made over 1,200 posts and the jury is probably still out on me!
The problem is little evidence to the car's current condition and only proposed plans to it's future condition. Plus, everyone's idea of good or bad is as different as we are. It's impossible for us to guess. What one person can live with, another wouldn't be able to stand it. And if we were to even try to come up with a value, it would be a total shot in the dark. As scottmoyer was said, the only true way to get even an idea as to a car's value would be through an official appraisal.
We get asked a lot what a car's value would be. And we can't offer a good answer. Wish we could. In the end, we can't do much better than if you were to spend a little time browsing through the classifieds and checking out the market place.
All I can say is if anyone were to buy a 3rd gen with the hopes of "flipping" it to make some $$$ or as a future investment, it would much like going to Vegas and playing the craps table. You might get lucky, but many lose. Those who buy a 3rd gen for fun or because of a passion for the ride, almost always become winners.
Good luck.

I like the way iroctopless worded his comments. Without knowing you or the car, we have no idea how to answer the questions asked. I have seen many new people come on here and state that an interior is a 9/10 but the carpet needs replacing, seats are dirty and the dash is starting to crack. In their eyes, the interior might be a 9/10 because it's in so much better condition than anything else they've ever owned. In my eyes, it would be a 3 or 4. My cars interior is a 9/10 to me. Others believe it is a 10/10. When 10 is perfect, there is very little out there that deserves that score.
Also, on the Appearance board, there are guys who think they have a 10/10 paint after Maaco sprayed the thing. Sorry, but Maaco can't do a 10/10 even on their best days. So now you see where I'm coming from. My car was judged many times in 1000 point judging and my highest score was a 996. In my opinion, the car shoud be in the low 900 or upper 800s. Again, if 1000 is perfect, then everything has the potential to be discounted. With an opinion like mine, do you see where my thoughts go when someone tells me they have an 8 or 9/10 interior or paint? I do concourse judging where perfection is the ultimate achievement. I've been designed to be picky!

Have to agree with Topless and Scott.
Consider Mine a 900, Mint interior, usually covered through its life,
no backseaters, no stains ect.
New paint, removed decals. Drop it to 800.
Different motor. Drop it to 750.
Different suspension. Drop it to 700.
Different gauges,shifter ect.Drop it to 675.
30K on odometer. Drop it to 650.
(RESTO MOD) Back up to 900.

Sometimes wish had kept it original
Iroc could have had a Z06 as its garage mate.
Just my two centavos.
