RPO codes G80 & G92

Just Picked up an 87 Iroc and I saw two RPO codes on there that stood out.

G80 and G92 I thought they were different options for the rear diff. I dint think it was possible to have them both, Can someone explaint hat to me please?

Re: RPO codes G80 & G92

G80 = Posi rear end
G92 = performance ratio for the rear end

Re: RPO codes G80 & G92

sweet deal, lol. I heard rumors on either this siteor another that theyre stronger than the Dana 44. How true is that. Im also assuming I have the 3:45 gear ratio then too?

Re: RPO codes G80 & G92

The 9 bolt rear is supposed to be strong, but it's still not very hard to break one. It's not unusual to rip teeth off the gears. To make matters worse, they're harder to find parts for then the 10 bolts.

The 9 bolt has a 7 3/4" ring gear. The Dana 44 is 8 1/2". Dana is stronger, IMHO

Lovely JUuuust Lovely. Ill just weld the tubes around the axles to the pumkin like I did with my other rear and get a girdle type cover. that should strengthen it a bit you think?

If you intend to run sticky tires, and much more then stock power, I'd recommend pulling the rear and either swapping to a 10 bolt which would be easier and cheaper to upgrade/replace when it grenades, or upgrade to a different, more common, performance oriented rear axle.

Re: RPO codes G80 & G92

true but IM done with drag cars and abusing these cars.... atleast for now. I just want a clean nice daily driver that I can have my fun with... I got in my Trans am today and I barely drive it , but just because of how powereful it is... I cant help but put my foot all the way in it. When I walked iside I said to my gf ... "that is why i dont need a car that powerful on the street." she said "Why?" and I said "Cause I cant keep my foot out of it"
