1LE with a 5 speed manual?

Was on Ebay earlier today and saw a 1992 Camaro Z28 1LE with the RPO code listed for a manual transmission. I was under the impression that the manual trannies only came behind the 305's due to reliability issues. Did some 1LE's come with manuals? Still looking for a third gen to call my own and thought I had most of the option packages firgured. Then I see that car and am not sure if I'm looking at a rare car or scam. Thanks for your time.

Yes, there were manual 1LEs, and they were all 305s.

Ok I thought all 1LE cars had 350's in em. You learn something new everyday. Thanks for the info.

Re: 1LE with a 5 speed manual?

The 350 has too much torque for the 5-speed.

.....in the factories eyes Numerous TGO members have had WC T5s live quite happily behind 350s. GM did want ANY possibly warranty claims to come up, so they didn't do the 350/T5 combo.

Re: 1LE with a 5 speed manual?

From the stories I have read the 5-speeds do fine if you ease the clutch out. If you dump the clutch while flooring the accelerator (sound familiar?) the will eat up the transmission. This is not my personal experience, just stories I have read on this website.

as they say "YMMV" lol

The 700R4 can hardly handle the 350 in stock form either. LOL

Re: 1LE with a 5 speed manual?

well based on previous expirence the T5 in the mustang 5.0 i've never had problems with it. The 700R4 automatic is one of the worst automatics i've ever had to deal with. Pulled many of them never installed one. Most people i've known just junk em and go back to a TH350 1 less gear but alot less problems.

I find that hard to believe. My car has over 118k miles on the original transmission. My car was a race car for a great portion of her life. Its been driven across the country and raced, then driven to the next track and raced there all on the original transmission. Except for normal maintenance its never had a problem.

Some transmissions may be flawed from the beginning, but mine works great.

Re: 1LE with a 5 speed manual?

Guess we have different luck. The issue I've always had with the 700R4 was that it wouldn't shift out of 2nd. Someone told me once its the rear pump in the transmission that causes this. I really couldn't tell ya. I just prefer a manual.

keep in mind the mustang is also quite a bit lighter, that will extent the trans life as well.

I agree with you on prefering a manual transmission. Its alot of fun to pound through the gears. It just so happens that I wanted a 350 all original car. I fell *** backwards into a sweet 1LE car that I couldn't pass up. I would eventualy like to get a 5-speed 88 IROC t-top car. If my powerball tickets would just start paying better...

Re: 1LE with a 5 speed manual?

Actually, if you spend any time with the Mustang camp, they blow up T5's just as often as we do. The difference is, when you blow the T5 in your Mustang you can go out and find another one the same day for $200. Not to mention the 4cyl Mustang T5 bolts right in place of the 5.0 T5 with a pilot bearing/bushing change. It's just not a big deal when your Mustang T5 goes bad.
