Re: cluster glass restoration

That was something I have always wondered about too. I have the same problem on my Digital dash in my GTA. My idea was to get a hold of some of the clear shiny plastic that screen protectors for Ipods, Psps, ect are made from. That stuff is super shiny, doesn't scratch easy, and wouldn't show the mini scratches in the plastic through. I just have to figure out where to get some from, I bet it would work amazing...

Re: cluster glass restoration

As has been mentioned, any quality automotive plastic cleaner/polish will remove most hazing and light scratches, and polish the plastic lense until it's clear as glass.

Re: cluster glass restoration

The lens' are made from a cast acrylic, and you can use any automotive paint polish that you want on them as acrylics have been used in paints for a long time. Obviously it is easier to remove the lens from the car and polish on a bench than it is to polish in the car... Usually the plastic is soft, so I have even been successful at sanding with fine sand paper and polishing them out to get off hazing left by or created by some chemical probably used to clean the interior.

Be careful if you use a power buffer, as it can catch an edge and throw it across the room... then you have to buy a new lens... usually junkyards want to sell a cluster, so you buy a new cluster... I actually like to use a DA sander with a buffing pad, its not as agressive and it does go slower, but I get really good results with 3M White polish compound...
