Design on (< than) a dime

$1000 cash and decent condition stock '86 Camaro.

Friendly/unfriendly suggestions on how to best make use of my new-soon-to-be-gone found wealth.

All ears..

Re: Design on (< than) a dime

is it tpi or tbi but whichever it is a set of 3.73's or find a g92 rear which has disc brakes and 3.45 (if it was manual) but that will run u about 200 for either one

Here's what I'd do:

Get SFC's and a strut tower brace to stiffen it up.

If there's any rust, take care of it.

Check out your suspension and replace/upgrade what your not happy with.

Depending on the paint, see if you can't buy supplies to paint it, or take it somewhere to be painted (likely to take your whole amount).

Engine upgrades are nice, but I'd say make sure you have a rust free and stiffened up base before you worry about that.

Howdy neighbor, I too am from Flint...

What are you trying to do, what is your plan???

I think that is probably the best course of action, figure out where you want to go and hopefully we can help you get there... $1000 will not go far, but it depends on what your starting with..

Gears to have installed will cost you, I would try Al's Trans and Gear on Saginaw street, he is just south of Hemphill Rd, across the street but north of McDonalds... He has worked on my car and I was more than happy with the price and his work.

The up side to a nice gear is it is great for acceleration, the down side is it will use more gas at speed, probably less gas in the city, but more on the highway...

I would probably not go taller than 3.73's, personally... Also your speedo would be off, Al may have a source for the new speedo gears, I got mine from SLP 10 years ago, not sure if they are still available.

Carbeurated..@ mmyers_417

Got her in late 2008 from a lot on 8mile/gratiot in Detroit area. Story goes the guy before me who owned it had a lengthy prison bid and it was "resting" in a relatives garage since 1993 or so.

-Speedo says 56,xxxx..second go-round most likely.
-Wheel wells are rotting underneath with a few more spots near the surface of the wheel wells. Unsure about the rest of the condition of the body, til she's stripped down.
-The interior is beaten up, and very few of the power options work(windows, hatch, radio, ac, etc.)
-Aftermarket alarm seems to have been installed by a less than capable person.(inoperable) and the engine bay is wires, tape and leaves from the late '80's.
-The hood has isn't aligned properly.
-Carb throttle plate only closes 85-90% of the way, along with a host of other mechanical problems.

More problems than money, but I driving her everyday without upgrading makes me feel like I'm moving backwards so I thought for a sec about spending the cash on a another car and setting her of to the side til I get a REAL job.
