That is one of the better articles on the early Third-Gens I have read.
My favorite quote, that I couldn't agree with more:
My favorite quote, that I couldn't agree with more:
The real testament to the 1982 Trans Am is the fact that even almost thirty years after its introduction it looks more modern and aerodynamic than the current field of new rear-wheel drive muscle cars. It was indeed a car well ahead of its time – a suave aerodynamic warrior.

Re: 1982 Trans Am
It is a shame that Pontiac wasn't allowed to put the 4.9 turbo in the new T/A. If that motor had been able to hold on until the fuel injection systems came on line it would have been neat. Chevrolet couldn't let the mighty Corvette take a back seat. The 80-81 editions were eating vettes at the time and the new 82's would have done the same.

Re: 1982 Trans Am
In so many ways the Firebird and Camaro were really ahead of thier time in 1982, As technology progressed so did the cars, these cars were more sophisticated than anything made before them. They are really overlooked but I see a definate intrest peaking in collectors...

Re: 1982 Trans Am
Look at it this way, is the forth gen suspension that much different than ours? No not really. And even look at the Fifth Gen, with the exception of IRS it's still pretty close. Our cars definitly made a huge though subtle impact on performance cars. And by subtle i mean most people dont think of the torque arm suspensions origins
