Re: Sooo, anyone think that this "mint condition" T/A has 37K original miles on it?
More like 373,000 miles on it. The interior wasn't very good and the paint sucks. I can go on and on but this car isn't worth the $4,500 asking price. I've bought nicer third generation cars for less money with FAR fewer miles on them.
A few things I noticed:
Interior
Dash pad is cracked
Seatbelts are sunfaded
Center console is splitting
Console lid is in bad shape
Driver door sill doesn't look grat
Carpet is faded and gross
The car belongs to a smoker. There is cigarette ashes in the ash tray
Dash bezel is nicked in two places and warped
Radio pod trim is scratched
The headliner needs to be recovered/replaced
Map pocket is starting to fall apart
Exterior
Clear coat is peeling in several places
Exterior markings are in bad shape
Hood bird looks terrible
Its hard to tell but it looks like there may have been some curb checks on the sidewalls of the tires. Then again they could just be really dirty.
The car's VIN at least confirms the car is an L69 car and that the year is correct. It appears to be what it is advertised to be although the condition is much worse than the seller is advertising. I'm also surprised that it has the 80MPH speedo with the L69 engine.

Anyway there is nothing mint about it. The interior isn't very good, the paint is terrible and I'd bet there are a ton of other issues with it. Joined: Jan 2004

Re: Sooo, anyone think that this "mint condition" T/A has 37K original miles on it?
No, the mileage above the car is a typo. That last digit is the tenths on the odometer. It doesn't have 300,000+ miles on it--even though the exterior looks like it might have. And there's no way that interior could have 300,000 miles on it; it definitely looks low-mileage.
And it's a "Collector Car" simply because it is officially 25 years old now, not because of that mileage typo.
But it's an '85, and there only a handful of '85 L69 TAs built... and they had a 5-speed and a 9-bolt 3.70 posi/disc rearend. So this car would have to be considered "disirable," even moreso if mileage really is low. All it appears to need is a paint job, and this one will be a keeper.
And it answers one big question that's been up for debate about a 1985 L69 TA: which air cleaner did it get? With the elimination of the "power bulge" hood after '84, when the L69 had a functional hood with the single-snorkel air cleaner like the LG4s, which wouldn't have worked with the new '85 TA louvered hood, it was always assumed that an '85 TA L69 would've gotten the dual snorkel air cleaner, despite the car not breathing through the nose like the Camaro did. So now we know!

that ash tray remiknded me of mine when i got it the cigerette buts were nearly fossilized in the thing, I had to first get them wet then use a flat head to pry them out,,, yuck.
Re: Sooo, anyone think that this "mint condition" T/A has 37K original miles on it?
It's probably 137k miles. Lots of things are shot, but they aren't destroyed. It's mostly complete, but it needs a complete restoration to be considered mint. That claim is just laughable. It's about a $500-1,500 car.

Re: Sooo, anyone think that this "mint condition" T/A has 37K original miles on it?
But in Illinois, if it's sat outside for many of its years, then that unfortunately means it probably has some rust to deal with, which is sad, because this is one of few thirdgens that could've been applying for "rare" status.
But those are not the original tires. And if the car only has 37K on it, then I wouldn't think its second set of tires could look so "scrubbed" already... unless he replaced the original tires with used tires... or the picture just doesn't represent them well.
Is the mileage real? I don't know. I'm thinking 137,374. But it's a real surviving 1985 L69 TA, that much is true. And based on the owner's starting price, he knows it.

Can that autocheck be easily fooled/be worthless or does it lend credibility to the low stated miles??
Re: Sooo, anyone think that this "mint condition" T/A has 37K original miles on it?
Autocheck, Carfax, etc all are only as good as the records on file. If you view the details of the report, there was never any mileage reported, and now the car is exempt anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Well I suppose if you let the brake pads wear down enough you could call them anti lock brakes LOL, just gotta watch it or you end up with anti stop brakes
