Still new and just lurking the site to learn more about third gens. Also still looking to buy one.

So, after taking your guys' advice to keep looking and more browsing craigslist I've found another (better) option. *^^^ Link's above.* I'm going to be down there for vacation, and what a souvenir this would be!
Once again, I'm new at these Third Gens. I'm only looking for a DD/beater for the warm/good weather days. Also, I'd love to learn how to drive a stick and the t-tops it has to have. This car fills all my requirements, but does it sound like a good deal if it's still available when I'm down there?
just found out it's got 170,xxx on the clock :/ (scary) and the "TLC" mentioned is for the headliner, door panel, and carpet are coming apart and are worn down. (ehh.)
finding this good conditioned 5-speed with t-tops and a v8's hard.

most likely a 305, not a 350. Only way for it to have the 350 is if the 5 speed was swapped into a 350 car, or the engine was swapped in a 305 car. 8th digit of the vin will be an 8 if its a 350 car, a F is its a 305 car.
you should look at the car really well in person, take it for a drive and see what its like. Those pics are too small to really tell anything about the car.
Personally, thats a lot of money for the mileage and the condition of the interior

I would think $2800 would be more reasonable with those miles... but it seems that they are definitely appreciating in value as of late... There has been a steady increase or stay the same, from 2000 until 2008 or 2009, but now it seems that the nice ones are going or at least asking for a pretty penny.
If the car had been reconditioned, everything looked new, and worked like new and it was not a rusted beast before, then I would think it might fetch $5000, but in the state its in, not likely right now.

Where are you located? $3800 is way too much on the eastern seaboard for any 3rd gen that's not either in almost perfect restored condition or a very nicely kept convertible! The southeast is primo 3rd gen pickin' country. There's a ton of them around here cheap - I've seen cars in that good of condition go for under $2k all the time.
More than likely, it's a 305 if it's a 5speed, and the owner just doesn't know (since there's no visible difference between a 305 and a 350).
Have you looked in NC? Especially down east. Places like Greenville, Rocky Mount, and south like Sanford - I always see alot of nice 3rd gens for sale in those areas under $2k. I could see $3800 at a used dealer lot, but private seller that's too much in this area. Hilton Head - might make the price higher - those are rich folks, their crap smells like roses. Might be a very nice car, but I think $3800 is too much. I paid only $2800 for my 1997 Z28 with the LT1 and it had under 100k miles.

... the search for a 305, 5-speed with t-tops continues. thanks y'all.

The headlight pockets not being black also tells me that the car/nose may have been repainted at one time too - I'm usually leary of paint jobs on these cars - Paint can hide a lot of "repair" work.

like everyone said- a lil 2 steep. check the rpo codes in the glovebox. look for b4z.
the headlight pockets not being black says the nose or car has been repainted. check for rust! its a 305 car unless it was swapped over to a 350.
good luck!

I was gonna say the same thing. And since I have never heard of anyone painting their headlight buckets I would say that car has been in a fender bender of some kind might not be a big deal but I would look for frame damage and probably take it somewhere to have someone look at it and be very wary of alignment problems. Also as pointed out if it truly is a 350 5 speed it's not stock so that could be a bargaining tool (more than likely it's a 305). Personally I think $3800 is to much but in my area if an f body has a 5 speed it generally costs more. If you're serious I would offer him $2500 cash (hundred dollar bills talk pretty well when they see them) and don't be afraid to walk and if you like the car call him back in a couple of months and see if he still has it (and if he's unwilling to deal he probably still will) he'll probably take it then if you haven't found another car by then.Originally Posted by Dante93GTZ

(but it's an automatic)
^this post has a link to a more reasonable one think.
With never driving a stick before and it being in SC, I'd have the duration of my vacation to teach myself to drive it.
