I was getting parts off another 1984 Trans Am for my 1984 TA. I found the attached sheet under the driver seat. I thought it was interesting enough to post. I think it is a build sheet.

 

You are correct. That is the build sheet with all RPO codes and dealership information on the bottom. Some find a similar sized piece of paper with far less information and consider it a build sheet, when it's just a trim sheet that has a fraction of the information a build sheet, such as your example, contains.

 

Yes, that is a very nice find. Other than the water spot in the center of the page, that build sheet is very legible.

I have been looking, but have not found a build sheet to my car. Someone removed the original seats long before me, so I have been piecing it back together. However, my car has many of the same features since both were from 1984. My production sequence is 272421 and the build sheet is 252459, so there is a difference of 19,962 between the two both built in Van Nuys.

The car I got the build sheet (252459) from had all its original parts from the factory, but got left in a field for 15-20 years unprotected and the sun ate the exterior. The owner decided to part it out instead of restoring it, which workout well for me.

 

Yes, VERY legible. You can even read the shipping weight: 3475 lbs.
Wonder why they recorded it separately, 2035 front, and 1440 rear ?
Does that have something to do with the auto transport trailer?

 

I spoke with my buddy who has been driving truck for 20+ years. He said it is for the auto transport trailer. That is why you see some cars facing forwards or backwards, so the weight can be distributed on the trailer.

 

That's interesting. I always wondered if it was just for fit, or the whims of the people loading, or what.

 

I see your Build sheet states L69 W/ Automatic Trans... But your info on the left states L69/T5 Did you replace the trans with a manual?

No, I still have the manual. Pretty much the only difference between the two cars. I really like the manual. A lot of fun. Hey, can you post your build sheet? I'm curious to see what it looks like.

 

I dont think thats from his car, its the one he found from the other 84.

I found mine over 20 yrs ago, but it was under the carpet, pass floor board.Prodcution workers put them in all sorts of places.Some have been located on top of the fuel tank.So you(OP) may still have yours...somewhere.

 

Any idea why they leave them in the car? Or just one of those things...

 

Probably.Easier than having to throw it away maybe.
I always thought its what employess used along the production line.So they know what options the car needed.Then just left it inside for future finds.

Most common, under the seats or carpet, but it could be anywhere.

 

In the seat springs, under the carpet on the passenger side, (where the catalytic hump converter is), under the back seats, under the carpet in the hatch area... pick one... its hidden... I have even head of behind the front bumper cover ...

The only thing I could think of was the trash can was full, so they stuffed it in the car... It was definitely not a standard thing where all cars got it, if it was then everyone should find one, unless someone else found it...

That's pretty cool. I have an 84 T/A as well. I've re-done my interior and haven't found one for mine so I figure mine's long gone. I saw on the sheet it said Boise ID. Is that where your from? I'm from Idaho and moving back to that area in about a year when I get out of the Air Force.

 

There were two trim sheets in my 89, one was behind the front bumper cover (well, what was left of it), the other one was stuck on the lower floor of the trunk but a good part of it is still readable.
I haven't removed the gas tank yet, so maybe I'll find the build sheet here.

On my 84, I found it folded under the carpet on the PS tunnel but with the moisture of the deadener, it stayed glued to the floor.

It seems like there are better chances to find them in a Van Nuys car than in a Norwood car.
