1989 formula 350 with rear disc brakes worth anything??

The deal is not done yet. But I found a formula 350 with rear disc brakes.
I seen alot of formulas with drum. Did only the 350 formula come with disc??
Are these cars worth anything?? were they a special model.

Reason I ask Is I dont need the whole car. Im buying just for the motor and trans.. I figure if its not a special car, I will part out the rear or sell as a whole. Help me out guys!!

The 350 would have required the car to have rear disc brakes that year.

Why part it? A Formula 350 is a desireable piece to have...

Actually there are probably more 1989 Formula 350's out there over any given year. If the car is beyond restoring, and cheap, go to town.

But if it's decent, please don't take it apart. Too many decent cars have been getting parted out lately.

Define special? The Formula in general is unique in that it's the only Firebird offered with all the performance equipment, and the only Fbody offered with all the performance equipment WITHOUT the ground effects found on the Trans Am's and late Camaros. It's pretty much a special model of the Firebird offered to compete with the best Ford had to offer. I'd say that makes them special.

Drum brakes are a lot more common. The early disc brakes are total garbage, and the later PBR disc brakes had supply problems, so there aren't that many 89-92 cars with good rear disc brakes. It makes the car a little more unusual, but not really rare.

Unless the car is trashed, it'd be a shame to chop it up. It may be fairly common, and not worth a lot, but there's nothing special about the engine/transmission to make it worth sacrificing the car. Most people with L98's and 700R4's want to upgrade to something better anyway.

Re: 1989 formula 350 with rear disc brakes worth anything??

To add to Drews comment, there were two rear disc brake systems in 1989. Although they appear the same, The first design was underpowered, the prop valve and other things were out of balance for the front/rear ratio. THe later version was actually much better. I might have a the serial number breakout of when the changeover was made. I would have to check tho.

Keep in mind that from 1982 - 1988 there was the first design 10.5" rear disc brakes, starting in 1989, they went to the 11.75" rear disc brakes which was much much better.
