Dumb question about Firebird steering wheels...

An 87 GTA steering wheel is the same design and fits the same as an 86 TA, correct? Only the horn button is different in emblem? I assume my horn button from my 86 will fit?

They LOOK the same, but before I buy this GTA wheel I want to know for sure it'll work...thanks!

Yes. I took a Firebird steering wheel that had been put on my '88 GTA and put that one onto my '84 T/A. So, yes, you can switch them.

However, depending on the GTA wheel, if it has the radio controls, you need the wiring harness behind the wheel and I haven't delved into what else may be required for wiring harness changes.

Re: Dumb question about Firebird steering wheels...

Its an 87 so it does not have the audio controls in the wheel center. Thanks for the quick answer! My 86's wheel is shot, and I found a halfway decent grey leather GTA wheel....I assumed it would work but wanted to ask anyway,

With an '87, you're good to go! That gold bird on the horn button does look sharp.

It does look nice, but I'm going to swap my 86 regular button on for a stock look. With such low mileage on this thing, I've decided a light, stock resto is the way to go with this car.

Thanks to both of you for your help...this is likely the dumbest, no-brainer question I've asked on here in my 10 years here

I don't see it as an option on the GTA Source Page:

Re: Dumb question about Firebird steering wheels...

1988 first saw the addition of the RPO UK3 steering wheel hub-mounted radio controls that were standard on the GTAs equipped with the UT4 cassette radio through 1989. Be sure to look for these controls if the car is purported to be one of these models.
From the same place. Probably the most accurate information is on that website.

Ok thanks for the clarification guys. the only reason I thought this was I know in '87 you could get the GTA pretty stripped down option wise if you wanted to and in '88 they had a lot more standard features.
